It’s not on your pocket of magnet schedule, but the Sea
Dogs are in Moncton tomorrow night to battle the Wildcats at 7pm. This is the
make-up game for the contest that was postponed due to a snow storm back on
December 15th.
Saint John, currently 18th overall in the
QMJHL standings, is 4-5-1-0 in their last 10 games and have been playing some
of their best hockey of the season over the past few weeks. They are coming off
a tough three-game Quebec road trip that saw them pick up one point.
The Dogs begin a five-game homestand this week with games
against Charlottetown on Friday and Drummondville on Saturday.
DONAGHEY
Connor Donaghey is off to a great start with the MHL’s
Yarmouth Mariners. In just three games, the Sea Dogs affiliate forward has
three goals and three assists. He was named the league’s second star of the week.
This past Saturday, Donaghey scored at 19:52 of the third
period to give the Mariners a 4-3 victory over the Miramichi Timberwolves. The
game then ended with a line brawl and goalie fight.
Unreal call by that announcer.
THE HIT
If you haven’t seen the knee-on-knee collision between
Daniel Walcott and Oliver Cooper from Sunday’s game, here it is via
HockeyFights.com.
Both would be okay and no penalty was called.
MACAULAY
The Chronicle Herald had an article on former Sea Dog
Stephen MacAulay who is now with the Saint Mary’s Huskies.
“Stephen’s the type of player we want to build for the
future,” Huskies head coach Trevor Stienburg said. “He’s getting the ice time
out of necessity with so many regulars out of the lineup. He’s practically
playing every second shift and he’s taking the faceoffs.”
MacAulay has a goal and an assist in four games at Saint
Mary’s.
COOPER
The QMJHL website had a player profile on Oliver Cooper
last week. Check that out here.
