The Sea Dogs have made a roster move
ahead of tonight’s game against the Moncton Wildcats.
The team announced this afternoon that
they have signed and recalled defenseman Alex Bernier of the Maritime Hockey
League’s Dieppe Commandos.
The 18-year-old has seven goals and 21
points in 24 games with the Commandos this season. He spent last year with the
NB/PEI Major Midget Hockey League’s Moncton Flyers where he was a teammate of
current Sea Dogs forward Kyle Ward.
"We've been watching Alex for the
last couple of years," said Sea Dogs general manager Darrell Young in a
news release. "He has already established himself as one of the best
defencemen in the Maritime Hockey League.
"We like his compete level. He
played well at the Eastern Canada Cup All-Star Challenge in Cornwall (Ontario)
last month. His signing opens more options for us as we look ahead to the
trading period."
The Sea Dogs were without defensemen
Thomas Chabot and Jakub Zboril on Saturday due to injuries – and both will,
assuming they get healthy, soon be leaving for world junior development camps.
The Sea Dogs face the Wildcats tonight at
7 p.m. at the Moncton Coliseum.
