DOGS CAPTURE ATLANTIC TITLE

It took a little longer than expected, but the Saint John Sea Dogs have won the Atlantic division. It is the first division title in franchise history.

The division win comes thanks to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan’s overtime victory last night against the Moncton Wildcats.

With four games remaining, Moncton could catch Saint John in points with 104 if the Sea Dogs were to lose every remaining game. But the first tie breaker in the league is wins, with Moncton only able to reach 49 while Saint John already has 51.

Saint John needs only a single point this afternoon against the Halifax Mooseheads to win the QMJHL’s regular season title. The win would mean home ice advantage throughout the 2010 Presidents Cup playoffs.

At the moment, Saint John will play the PEI Rocket in the first round of the post-season. The Rocket have three games remaining and sit five points back of Cape Breton for third place in the Atlantic.
