TRASK SUSPENDED FOR ELBOW ON KELLY

Scott Trask won’t be starting the playoffs with his Moncton Wildcats.

"Our Disciplinary Prefect informed me this afternoon of his decision to suspend Scott Trask indefinitely," said League Commissioner Gilles Courteau in a release. "After seeing the hit, I believe it is the right course of action during the disciplinary process. Our position remains clear: The safety of our players is our number one priority."

Trask is suspended after nailing Aiden Kelly of the Saint John Sea Dogs with an elbow to the head on Sunday night at the Moncton Coliseum. The replays, seen around Canada and the United States on Rogers Sportsnet and the NHL Network, clearly showed Trask getting his elbow up on Kelly as he crosses the blue line.

Kelly, a Saint John native, left the game after the hit and didn’t return. No update on his injury hs been released.

Trask was given a five minute major penalty and a game misconduct after his actions.

The hit comes just eight days after Mike Thomas of the Sea Dogs was given a five game (and an automatic one game) suspension for his hit on Alex Wall of the Wildcats at Harbour Station.

The disciplinary process will follow existing protocols. The Disciplinary Prefect will collect the testimonies of the on-ice officials, the players and of members of both organizations. The Disciplinary Prefect will then analyze the facts and review his findings with the Disciplinary Sanctions Committee before making a decision. No timetable has yet been set.

The Disciplinary Prefect will not be available for comment during the process.

Moncton begins their first round of the post-season on Friday against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.
