ON SAUVE’S SEASON
Hockey’s Future posted reviews of the Vancouver Canucks’ American Hockey League prospects last week. Among those reviewed uncluded former Sea Dogs defenseman Yann Sauve. On his future with the Stanley Cup runner-ups:
Sauve has two years remaining on his entry-level contract to show the Canucks that he can be the two-way defenseman they drafted 41st overall in 2008. He will probably start the coming season in the AHL while giving Vancouver plenty of depth at the defensive position, should more injuries arise this coming season. This past season, the 21-year old played eight games with the now defunct Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL, 32 games with the AHL’s Manitoba Moose, and five games with the Canucks. He tallied three goals and 13 assists in 52 total regular season games. He added an assist in 13 post-season games with Manitoba.
With the Moose moving to St. John’s, Newfoundland and becoming the Winnipeg Whatever’s farm team, it’s not clear who the Canucks will affiliate with next season.

SIMMONS ON HUBERDEAU
The sometimes controversial Steve Simmons shared his thoughts on Jonathan Huberdeau in his Toronto Sun column yesterday.Wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if Jonathan Huberdeau of Saint John ends up as the best player out of this NHL draft class. He just seems to know how to play.Photo Credits: Marc Henwood/Station Nation, Marc Henwood/Station Nation
