FIRST PERIOD: Although there were no goals in the opening frame, there was some solid back-and-forth action with players literally diving and falling over each other to get at the puck. It was quite entertaining. The other two periods featured the same kind of action.

VS MONCTON: With the win, the Sea Dogs rebounded from their 5-2 loss in Moncton on New Year’s Eve. Saint John is now 3-2-0-0 against the Wildcats this year while the Wildcats are 2-1-1-1 against the Sea Dogs.

TRASK: Scott Trask was given a game misconduct just 15 seconds into the second period after taking part in his second fight of the game. He squared off with Ian Saab in the first period and Spencer MacDonald in the middle frame.

STREAK: The win ended Saint John’s three-game losing streak. The Dogs had not won since December 18 entering last night’s game. Over their three-game losing streak, the Sea Dogs had been outscored 13-8

EMOND: Danick Emond made his Moncton Wildcats debut on Monday after being acquired from the Victoriaville Tigres earlier in the day. He was a -1 in the game.

SHOOTOUTS: The Sea Dogs improved to 2-2 in shootouts this year. It was the second straight game at Harbour Station that went to a shootout as they fell to the PEI Rocket on Friday night. Monday’s loss dropped the Wildcats to 2-1 in the breakaway contest.

CHIASSSON: Danny Chiasson scored his first goal as a Sea Dog in the third period, tying the game at 1-1. He also had a +1 rating and two shots and picked up third star honours. He has a goal and four assists with Saint John this year.

RIVALRY CUP: According to the Times & Transcript, Moncton leads the Brunswick News Rivalry Cup 10-9.

QUICK HITS: This was the first QMJHL game of 2012… Saint John’s portion of the Rivalry Cup food drive was held on Monday… multiple reports say that some guy slept through the entire second period… Danick Gauthier had four shots for Saint John… Gauthier had four hits. Ian Saab had three.
