Shawinigan Gets A Month Off; Moose Moving On To Play Rimouski

The 2012 MasterCard Memorial Cup begins in one month. The Shawinigan Cataractes, your proud hosts, will have an entire month off to prepare for the event.

The Chicoutimi Sagueneens, the No. 8 seed, stunned the Cataractes with a 3-2 win in Game 7 of their quarterfinal playoff series on Tuesday night at the Bionest Centre. Chicoutimi, featuring former Sea Dogs Alexandre Beauregard, Gabriel Bourret, and Guillaume Cloutier, will now move on to play Saint John in the semifinals which begin on Friday at Harbour Station.

We honestly don’t even know what to say right now. All the drama that has gone down over the past year between Shawinigan and Saint John has suddenly come to an abrupt end for at least a couple weeks.

Luckily for Shawinigan, their choke was overshadowed by the Quebec Remparts who completed an epic collapse tonight.

The Halifax Moosehaeds came back from a 3-0 series deficit and won Game 7 tonight 5-4 in overtime, sending the young Herd to the semifinals. It’s just the fourth time in league history a team has come back from 3-0 down in a series and won.

What a moment for Moose Country.

Halifax will play Rimouski in the other semifinal. The Oceanic defeated the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada 5-4 in the other, other Game 7 in the Q. All three road teams won Game 7s tonight.

So, Saint John will play Chicoutimi and Rimouski will play Halifax in the semis. Who saw that coming?
