RECAP: Dogs Lose 5-0

FINAL: Saint John 0, Halifax 5
HALIFAX – The Halifax Mooseheads picked up their ninth straight win by handing the Saint John Sea Dogs their eighth straight loss.

The Mooseheads defeated the Sea Dogs 5-0 on Saturday night in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action at the Halifax Metro Centre. Halifax is on a serious roll right now and are just a single point back of first place in the league.

The Sea Dogs meanwhile are heading in the opposite direction. Saint John sits 17th overall in the league with a 6-18-0-3 record and are seven points out of a playoff spot. The Dogs have won just once in their last 18 games.

It was also a rough weekend for Saint John’s offense as they scored just once in two games. The Sea Dogs had 12 shots through two periods on Saturday and 22 overall.

Nikolaj Ehlers and Luca Ciampini scored 21 seconds apart in the first to give the Mooseheads a 1-0 lead after one. Connor Moynihan scored in the second while Ehlers and Andrew Ryan netted markers in the third.

Jonathan Drouin, who has destroyed opponents this month, had two assists. Zach Fucale stopped all 22 shots he faced for the shutout win.

Sebastien Auger stopped 37 of the 42 shots he faced.

Saint John went 0-for-2 on the power play while Halifax went 2-for-6.

NEXT GAME: The Sea Dogs host the Charlottetown Islanders on Wednesday night.
