GAMEDAY 4: at Halifax

A preview of tonight’s game between the Saint John Sea Dogs and Halifax Mooseheads…

When and where: Tonight at 7 p.m., Scotiabank Centre

Records: The Sea Dogs enter action today with a 1-1-0-1 record for three points and sit fourth in the Maritimes Division and 11th overall. The Mooseheads have a record of 1-2-0-0 for two points and sit last in the Maritimes and 15th overall.

Last games: The Sea Dogs are coming off a 5-1 home opening win over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan last night. Nathan Noel had a pair of goals while singles came from Olivier LeBlanc, Mark Tremaine, and Mathieu Joseph. The Mooseheads fell 3-0 to the Moncton Wildcats last night in their home opener.

2013-14 head-to-head: The Sea Dogs were 1-7-0-0 against the Mooseheads last season while Halifax went 7-1-0-0 against Saint John.

Last meeting: The Sea Dogs and Mooseheads met on August 23 in Truro and saw the Mooseheads edge the Sea Dogs 4-3 in a shootout. Vincent Watt, Matt Murphy, and Kelly Bent all scored for Halifax while Sea Dogs goals came from Samuel Dove-McFalls, Matt Green, and Mathieu Joseph.

Random stat: The Sea Dogs and Mooseheads met three times during the pre-season. The “home” team won each game.

SJ notes: Nathan Noel leads Saint John in scoring with three goals and one assist in three games… Adam Marsh had two assists last night… Samuel Dove-McFalls had five shots last night… Olivier LeBlanc was named Sea Dogs captain before the game… the Dogs are 0-1-0-1 on the road this season… Noel has scored a league best two shorthanded goals… the Dogs have a league best three shorthanded goals for this year… Saint John’s penalty kill has been excellent so far, killing off 25 of 26 penalties.

HFX notes: Ryan Falkenham and Timo Meier lead the Mooseheads in scoring with four points each… Falkenham has a team best three goals… Meier has a team high three assists… Jonathan Drouin is gone and he ain’t coming back… the Moose are without stars Nikolaj Ehlers and Zach Fucale due to NHL camps… Halifax is 0-1-0-0 at home this year… Halifax has the second best power play in the league with a rating of 30.8%... their penalty killing is the worst in the league with a rating of 56.3%.
