Joseph named to Team of the Week

Saint John Sea Dogs forward Alexis Joseph was named to the QMJHL Team of the Week of Monday.

Joseph recorded three goals and three assists in Saint John's three road games last week, helping the club go 2-1-0-0 on their Quebec road trip.
The 16-year-old has four goals and four assists in five games this month. He now sits sixth in QMJHL rookie scoring with 26 points (12 goals and 14 assists) in 24 games.

It's the second week in a row a Sea Dog has made the QMJHL Team of the Week. Last week, Sea Dogs captain Olivier Groulx earned the honour.

A few other news and notes...

  • The Sea Dogs will be without forward Olivers Murnieks this week as he joins Team Latvia ahead of the world juniors. German Carlos Handel, meanwhile, is out of the Halifax Mooseheads lineup due to the world juniors as well.
  • Saint John will have 16-year-old forward Nolann Héroux in their lineup tonight after it was announced that he'll join the team for the second half.
  • With the trade period beginning Friday, it's certainly notable that forward Jacob Beaulieu is a healthy scratch for Saint John tonight.
  • The Sea Dogs enter these final two games of the first half in 17th-place, sitting outside the QMJHL's playoff picture. They are, however just one-point behind the Victoriaville Tigres and Gatineau Olympiques.
    • Victoriaville will face Shawinigan and Sherbrooke this week while Gatineau will take on Blainville-Boisbriand and Drummondville.
  • Despite losing in overtime to the Sea Dogs last week, the Chicoutimi Sagueneens were ranked fourth in this week's CHL Top 10. The Moncton Wildcats were seventh and Blainville-Boisbriand 10th. The WHL's Everett Silvertips were ranked first.
  • The Newfoundland Regiment make their first visit to New Brunswick this week. Gordie Dwyer's squad takes on the Moncton Wildcats on Wednesday. The Regiment will make their first visit to Saint John on New Year's Eve.
  • The Cape Breton Eagles took on the Charlottetown Islanders in an 11 a.m. school day game this morning. The Eagles won 5-4 in a shootout in front of 3,571 kids/fans.
  • Justin Larose of the Regiment and Thomas Verdon of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies each have a league high 46 points. Maxim Massé of the Sagueneens leads the league in goals with 26.
