SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs got the second half of their season off to a winning start on Sunday at TD Station.

A four-goal second period pushed the Sea Dogs to a 6-3 victory over the Charlottetown Islanders, ending a three-game losing streak and a six-game home losing skid.

The Sea Dogs allowed the first two goals of the game but slowly got back into it, trailing 2-1 after one. In the second period, Saint John's special teams came to life, scoring two power play goals and a shorthanded goal to go along with an even strength marker to take a 5-2 lead.

The Islanders controlled parts of the third period, outshooting the Sea Dogs 18-6 – but they could only beat Justin Robinson once. Angelo Fullerton iced the game with an empty net marker at 18:21.

Along with Fullerton, Olivier Groulx scored twice for Saint John while Dylan Rozzi, Alexander Donovan and Everett Baldwin all added solo markers. Robinson made 34 saves to earn his first win since Dec. 10.

Alexis Beaulieu scored twice for Charlottetown while Dylan MacKinnon netted his first goal as an Islander. Affiliate goaltender Hudson Bradley made 23 saves in the loss.

After a difficult first half – especially on home ice – this is certainly the second half start the Sea Dogs were looking for. We'll see what kind of momentum they can carry from this win.
