John Moore’s post-game video.
SHUTOUT: It took a while, but Mathieu Corbeil finally has
a regular season shutout. Metro Halifax breaks down the situation.
Corbeil had played 123 regular-season games in the QMJHL -- including 99 with Halifax -- without a shutout, although he did record one in the playoffs last season.
The 20-year netminder made 20 saves to pick up the win
last night. He was named first star.
Corbeil earned his first career QMJHL shutout in Game Four
of the first round of last year’s playoffs against Cape Breton. He made 15
stops in that game.
PINK: It was a very pink night at the Halifax Metro Centre. The Mooseheads wore very sharp pink jerseys that featured a Halifax script logo on the front and black name plates on the back. The HMC ice was painted pink for the game.
NOT PLAYING: According to News 88.9, Devon Oliver-Dares
did not play because of personal reasons. Tyrone Sock was a healthy scratch
while Stanislav Galiev missed the game because of a broken wrsit.
RECALLED: The Sea Dogs recalled forward Stephen Anderson
for the contest. He has 10 goals and three assists in seven games with the
Maritime Junior Hockey League’s Summerside Western Capitals.
GAUTHIER’S 11th: Danick Gauthier scored his 11th
marker of the season in the first period. It took him 65 games to reach 11
goals last year. Friday saw Gauthier play in just his 13th game of the
year.
BIG CROWD: The crowd of 8,201 was the biggest the Sea
Dogs have played in front of this season.
STREAK OVER: The loss ended Halifax’s winning streak at
five games. The last time the Moose lost was on September 30 in Cape Breton.
STREAK BEGINNING: The Sea Dogs extended their winning
streak to three games. They beat the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 9-4 last Friday and
the Val-d’Or Foreurs 4-1 on Saturday.
QUICK GOALS: Tomas Jurco scored two goals 15 seconds apart on Friday night
in the third period. Jurco is on a six-point
streak and has four goals and three assists during that span.
MacKINNON: Playing in his first game against Saint John,
rookie Nathan MacKinnon had an uneventful night. He was held off the score
sheet and registered a -2 rating along with two shots. It was just the fourth
time in his 13-game QMJHL career that he didn’t record a point.
TELUS SUCKS: We don’t even know if this was Telus’ fault
but we’ll blame them anyway. The News 88.9 feed wasn’t hooked up to the Telus
feed last night, meaning Sea Dogs fans had to listen to the Mooseheads radio feed. Please Telus, since you are making all of us pay a ridiculous amount of money for your
crappy webcast, the least you could do is bring it up to the appropriate level
of crappiness.
