SAINT JOHN – Two of the top teams in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League meet this afternoon at Harbour Station as the Saint John Sea Dogs host the Quebec Remparts. Game time is 3pm.

The Sea Dogs enter play today with a record of 11-5-0-0 and sit first in the Maritimes Division and the entire league. The Remparts are 9-2-2-1 and are second in the Telus East Division and fourth overall in the league.

In the BMO CHL MasterCard Top 10 Rankings this past week, the Sea Dogs were ranked fifth and the Remparts sixth.

Saint John is coming off a solid 10-3 blowout win over the PEI Rocket last night at the Station. The Sea Dogs dominated the majority of the game, a contest that featured a seven-goal outburst in the second period. Quebec played in Halifax last night and fell 4-3 in overtime to the Mooseheads.

Quebec and Saint John have been two of the hotter teams of late. The Dogs have won four straight and are 8-2-0-0 in their last 10 while Quebec is on a 9-0-2-1 run and are 9-0-1-1 in their last 10.

The Sea Dogs have scored the second most goals in the QMJHL this season (73) while the Remparts have surrendered the second fewest (41).

Entering this season, it looked as though the Remparts would use this as a building year. But after picking 21 points in their first 14 games it appears they could be contenders once again this year. They have plenty of young talent highlighted by rookies Mikhail Grigorenko, Adam Erne and Anthony Duclair.

Entering play today, five of the top 15 rookie point scorers are Rempart players.

This game ends a three-game road trip through the Maritimes for Quebec. Today’s match also ends a three-in-three for Saint John.

NOTES: Rookie Mikhail Grigorenko leads the Remparts in scoring with 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points. Frederick Roy is second on the team in points with seven goals and 13 assists for 20… Grigorenko’s 11 goals are a Remparts high. Mikael Tam is second with 10 markers while Roy is third with seven… Roy and Martin Lefebvre lead the squad in assists with 13 each. Grigorenko has 12 and Alexandre Comotois has 11… Lefebvre is a team best +12. Owen Werthner is a +11… Olivier Hinse is a Quebec worst -4… Werthner has served a team high 30 penalty minutes in 14 games… Tam has seven power play goals… Tam has taken a team high 60 shots… Tam’s seven power play goals are good for third in the league… Tam and Werthner both have a league high three game winning goals… Grigorenko’s 23 points place him first in rookie scoring… have outscored their opponents 60-41 in 14 games this year… 5-0-1-0 on the road this season with their only loss coming last night in Halifax. They have outscored their opponents 33-17 on the road… Quebec has the second best power play in the league with a rating of 32.8%... their penalty kill is running at 77.2% which is good for eighth in the league.

IN NET: Louis Domingue has a record of 4-0-1-1 with a 1.71 goals against average and a 0.942 save percentage. Rookie Francois Brassard is 5-2-1-0 with a 3.24 GAA and a 0.895 save percentage.

LAST GAME: The Remparts are coming off a 4-3 overtime loss in Halifax last night. Anthony Duclair, Mikhail Grigorenko and Frederick Roy each had goals in the loss. Louis Domingue allowed four goals on 37 shots.The Mooseheads outshot the Remparts 37-29 in the contest.

NOTES: Danick Gauthier and Zack Phillips lead the Sea Dogs in points with 18 each. Phillips has eight goals and 10 assists and Gauthier has 14 goals and four assists. Jonathan Huberdeau and Ryan Tesink are third and fourth in points with 13 each… Gauthier has a team leading 14 goals in just 14 games. Phillips is second with eight markers… Phillips leads the team in assists with 10. Huberdeau and Tesink both have nine while Stephen MacAulay has eight… Charles-Olivier Roussel is a +16. Kevin Gagne is a +14 and Phillips and Scott Oke are both a +13… Ian Saab has served a team high 46 penalty minutes… Gauthier has four power play goals… Phillips has taken a team high 45 shots. He had an incredible 10 shots through two periods last night… Gauthier’s 14 goals place him second in the league… Phillips is fourth in the league in game winning goals with two… Phillips is fourth in the league in insurance goals with two… Roussel’s +16 rating is good for second in the league… Oliver Cooper’s nine points place him 16th in rookie scoring… Huberdeau and Sephen MacAulay both have two shorthanded assists… 6-1-0-0 at Harbour Station this season and have outscored their opponents 41-19… Saint John’s power play is running at 18.4%, placing them 15th in the league... the Sea Dogs’ penalty kill is ranked 16th in the league with a rating of 69.7%.

IN NET: Mathieu Corbeil will likely get the start in goal today. He has a record of 8-2-0-0 with a 2.33 goals against average and a 0.907 save percentage. He is coming off a 20-save shutout win in Halifax on Friday.

STREAKING: Tomas Jurco is on a seven-game point streak entering tonight's game. He has recorded four goals and five assists over that span.

LAST YEAR: The Sea Dogs had a pretty easy time with the Remparts last year at Harbour Station, beating them 6-0.


LAST GAME: The Sea Dogs are coming off a dominant 10-3 win over the PEI Rocket last night at Harbour Station. Danick Gauthier had three goals while Jonathan Huberdeau, Zack Phillips, Scott Oke, Oliver Cooper, Aidan Kelly, Pierre Durepos and Nathan Beaulieu chipped in with single markers. Sebastien Auger made 19 saves in the win.
