Game Day 40: vs Oceanic

- The 2025 Memorial Cup hosts make their lone visit of the season to TD Station tonight.

The Rimouski Oceanic begin a three-game Maritime road trip this evening in Saint John. Rimouski sits fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 20-17-3-0 record for 43 points — nine points better than the Sea Dogs.

This is the second game of a five-game homestand for Saint John. The Sea Dogs have dropped three straight home contests and haven't won at TD Station since Dec. 9.

Game time tonight is 7 p.m.

2023-24 regular season records: The Sea Dogs are 14-19-3-3 for 34 points (sixth Maritimes/ninth Eastern/15th QMJHL) while Oceanic are 20-17-3-0 for 43 points (second East/fourth Eastern/seventh QMJHL).

Last games: The Sea Dogs are coming off a 6-2 loss to the Moncton Wildcats on Sunday at TD Station. Egan Beveridge and Pavel Simek scored for Saint John. Justin Robinson made 33 saves in the loss. The Oceanic are coming off a 3-2 upset win over the first-place Baie-Comeau Drakkar on Sunday. Jacob Mathieu scored twice for Rimouski while Maxime Coursol added a single. Quentin Miller made 36 saves in the win.

2023-24 head-to-head: The Sea Dogs are 1-0-0-0 against the Oceanic this season while Rimouski is 0-1-0-0 against Saint John.

Last meeting: Nov. 19 in Rimouski where the Sea Dogs defeated the Oceanic 6-3. Peter Reynolds had a hat trick for Saint John while singles came from Eriks Mateiko, Vince Elie and Pavel Simek. Rimouski goals came from Jacob Mathieu, Mael St-Denis and Alexandre Blais. Patrick Leaver made 26 saves in the win. Vincent Filion made 16 stops in the loss.

Oceanic to watch: Alexandre Blais is sixth in QMJHL scoring with 52 points and third in assists with 37.

Random stat: Saint John is 2-2-1-0 against East Division teams this season.
