Game Day 44: at Cape Breton

- The Saint John Sea Dogs will look to turn things around tonight against the Cape Breton Eagles.

The Sea Dogs are coming off back-to-back home losses and are just 2-7-0-1 in their last 10 games. Saint John has been decent on the road so far this season, posting an 8-8-1-1 record.

The Eagles have been playing well of late as they try and inch up the standings. They carry a three-game winning streak into tonight's match.

Game time at Centre 200 is 7 p.m.

2023-24 regular season records: The Sea Dogs are 15-22-3-3 for 36 points (sixth Maritimes/ninth Eastern/15th QMJHL) while the Eagles are 23-18-1-1 for 48 points (third Maritimes/fourth Eastern/seventh QMJHL).

Last games: The Sea Dogs are coming off a 6-1 loss to the Shawinigan Cataractes on Thursday. Eriks Mateiko scored Saint John's lone goal. Justin Robinson made 22 saves in the loss. The Eagles are coming off a 3-0 win over the Chicoutimi Sagueneens on Thursday. Antoine Roy, Lucas Romeo and Charles-Antoine Lavallee scored for Cape Breton. Nicolas Ruccia made 29 saves in the shutout. 

2023-24 head-to-head: The Sea Dogs are 1-3-1-0 against the Eagles this season while Cape Breton is 4-1-0-0 against Saint John.

Last meeting: Dec. 28 in Sydney where the Sea Dogs fell 10-3 to the Eagles. Olivier Houde had a hat trick for Cape Breton while singles came from Cole Burbidge, Charles-Antoine Lavallee, Luke Patterson, Conor Shortall, Emile Ricard, Jude Campbell and Cam Squires. Brody Fournier scored twice for Saint John and Kency Pierre-Noel added a solo marker. Nicolas Ruccia made 23 saves in the win. Patrick Leaver and Justin Robinson each allowed five goals in the loss.

Eagle to watch: Cam Squires has five goals and three assists in five games against Saint John.

Random stat: Brody Fournier had three points (two goals and an assist) the last time the Sea Dogs visited Centre 200. He did not have any points against the Eagles this season as a member of the Halifax Mooseheads.
