SAINT JOHN – For just the second time this season and the first time since November, the Saint John Sea Dogs take on the Drummondville Voltigeurs. Game time this afternoon is 3pm at Harbour Station.
The Sea Dogs are coming off a rough home-and-home series against the Halifax Mooseheads. Saint John lost both games and were outscored a combined 14-4. Hopefully things go better today.
The Dogs currently sit fifth in the Telus Maritimes Division and 15th overall in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with a 21-36-1-0 record. Saint John has lost three straight and are 2-7-1-0 in their last 10 games.
Saint John is in a battle with the Sherbrooke Phoenix in the bottom of the standings. A win by the Dogs today would put them four points up on the 16th-place Phoenix with nine games remaining in the regular season.
Drummondville sits fourth in the Telus West Division and 10th overall in the league with a 31-23-2-2 record. They’ve lost two straight and are 5-5 in their last 10.
The Volts are in a battle for playoff positioning in the middle of the standings. They are three points back of the Val-d’Or Foreurs who sit ninth and the PEI Rocket who sit eighth. The top eight teams will have home ice advantage in the opening round of the playoffs.
Drummondville is led by Jerome Verrier who has 29 goals and 36 points for 65 points in 58 games.

The Sea Dogs are coming off a 6-1 loss to the Mooseheads in Halifax on Friday night. Jakub Izacky scored Saint John’s only goal. Alex Fournier allowed six goals on 33 shots in the loss.
The Voltigeurs are coming off a 7-2 loss in Moncton on Friday night. Drummondville goals came from Olivier Archambault and Jerome Verrier. Domenic Graham allowed seven goals on 26 shots in the loss.
The Sea Dogs are 0-1-0-0 against the Voltigeurs this season while Drummondville is 1-0-0-0 against Saint John.
Their only previous meeting this season was on November 10 in Drummondville where the Volts beat the Dogs 6-2. Jonathan Huberdeau and Ryan Tesink scored for Saint John. Drummondville had a pair of goals from Guillaume Gauthier and Marc-Olivier Brouillard and singles from Olivier Archambault and Olivier Caouette. Alex Fournier allowed six goals on 44 shots in the loss while Domenic Graham made 15 stops in the win. The Sea Dogs were out shot 44-17.
