GAME DAY 37: vs Screaming Eagles

The Saint John Sea Dogs (23-9-3-1, 1st Maritimes, 2nd QMJHL) are back in action tonight against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles (20-15-2-1, 3rd Maritimes, 8th QMJHL). Game time is 7 p.m. at Harbour Station.

Last games: The Sea Dogs are coming off a 7-5 home loss to the Titan on New Year's Eve. Bokondji Imama scored twice while singles came from Matthew Highmore, Alexandre Lafreniere and Alexandre Bernier. Callum Booth made 29 saves in the loss. The Screaming Eagles are coming off a 5-2 win over the Mooseheads in Halifax on New Year's Eve. Drake Batherson, Vasily Glotov, Phelix Martineau, Yannick Bertrand and Giovanni Fiore scored for Cape Breton. Kevin Mandolese made 23 saves in the win.

2016-17 head-to-head: The Sea Dogs are 3-0-0-0 against the Screaming Eagles this season while Cape Breton is 0-3-0-0 against Saint John.

Last meeting: Nov. 23 at Harbour Station where the Sea Dogs defeated the Screaming Eagles 4-3. Nathan Noel had a hat trick for Saint John while Mathieu Joseph added a solo marker. Giovanni Fiore, Massimo Carozza and Marcus Tesink scored for Cape Breton. Alex Bishop made 39 saves in the win. Kyle Jessiman made 30 stops in the loss.

Random stat: Saint John continues to have the best power play (31.3%) and penalty kill (84.5%) in the QMJHL.

1. Current Sea Dogs Thomas Chabot and Mathieu Joseph; future Sea Dog Julien Gauthier; and current-but-soon-to-be-former Screaming Eagle Pierre-Luc Dubois are all in action for Team Canada tonight at the World Junior Hockey Championship in Montreal.

2. This is the final game for both teams before Friday's QMJHL trade deadline.

Vasily Glotov leads the team in assists with 25... the Sea Dogs are 12-3-2-0 at home this year... the Screaming Eagles are 7-11-0-0 on the road... Fiore's 27 goals place him in a tie for first in the league... Cape Breton has the fourth best penalty kill in the QMJHL with a rating of 82.5%... Fiore has goals in four straight games...
