VICTORIAVILLE – There is some big news coming out of Victoriaville this afternoon.
The Saint John Sea Dogs have confirmed reports that
Jonathan Huberdeau will miss the Subway Super Series with a foot injury.
According to a team release, “Huberdeau left Monday’s morning skate with a foot
injury, originally sustained in Saturday’s 3-2 win over the Baie-Comeau
Drakkar. The Florida Panthers prospect will be re-evaluated upon his return to
Saint John.”
Sportsnet’s RJ Broadhead, who will be doing play-by-play
of tonight’s game, tweeted that Huberdeau’s foot is broken. Sportsnet’s Sam
Cosentino also noted that he “may be out as long as a month.” But, none of these
reports have been confirmed.
Huberdeau was scheduled to wear an assistant captain’s ‘A’
on his sweater and skate on the top line with teammate Zack Phillips and
Acadie-Bathurst Titan sniper Zach O’Brien.
Three Sea Dogs – Phillips and defensemen
Nathan Beaulieu and Pierre Durepos – will be taking part in this week’s Super
Series games. Both matches can be seen live on Sportsnet.
Victoriaville’s Brandon Hynes and Quebec’s Anthony
Duclair are expected to take the Sea Dogs captain's place in games one and two, respectively.
The third overall pick in June’s National Hockey League
Entry Draft has been on a tear since returning from Panthers training camp. In
13 games, Huberdeau has compiled 10 goals and 18 assists.
The injury, if serious, of obviously a huge blow to the
Sea Dogs who are already playing short up front due to other injuries.
Hopefully it isn’t too serious, especially with Canada’s World Junior camp getting underway in
just over a month’s time.
