Denis Creighton is the newest member of the Saint John Sea Dogs.
Director of Hockey Operations Mike Kelly announced today that the club has signed the 17-year old free agent. News 88.9 announced during their broadcast on Wednesday that Creighton was on a tryout with the team. He did play in the Sea Dogs’ 4-3 loss in Rimouski.
According to the Sea Dogs release, “the native of Port Colborne, Ont., was obtained from the Thorold Blackhawks of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. Creighton recorded a goal, an assist and 45 penalty minutes in 16 games at the junior B level.”
The six-foot-one, 188 pound forward is the son of former National Hockey League forward Adam Creighton. He was part of the 1993-94 Tampa Bay Lightning team that featured Sea Dogs head coach Gerard Gallant.
The Sea Dogs now have 14 forwards on their roster but have been struggling to ice four lines with Devon Oliver-Dares currently not with the team, Stanislav Galiev out with a broken wrist and Stephen MacAulay listed as day-to-day after blocking a shot in Wednesday’s game.
Creighton joins Grant West as forwards Saint John has recently picked up. The Dogs claimed West off waivers last week. In three games with the Dogs he has a goal and an assist.
Saint John continues their three-game Quebec road swing tonight at 8:30pm in Baie-Comeau.
