MISSING IN ACTION: As expected, Tomas Jurco missed the match with a hip flexor injury and is day-to-day. He was injured on Sunday in the Sea Dogs’ 6-5
shootout loss in Bathurst.
Once again, Jonathan Huberdeau (foot), Stanislav Galiev
(wrist) and Aidan Kelly (upper-body) missed the game. News 88.9 confirmed that
Galiev had wrist surgery in Washington earlier this week. He is expected to
miss another six weeks.
Denis Creighton was a healthy scratch.
How much did Saint John’s injury-plagued lineup affect
the game? Patrick Roy gave his thoughts to le Journal de Quebec.
CALLED UP: Forwards Stephen Anderson and McKenzie Brown
were both recalled from junior ‘A’ for the game. Brown had a solid game,
creating a few scoring chances. He finished the night with a -2 rating, a shot
on goal and a hit. Anderson had two shots and a hit.
REMPARTS STREAK: The win was Quebec's ninth straight. They
are now tied with the Sea Dogs for top spot in the QMJHL and have played two
fewer games.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Saint John’s power play had another off
night, going 0-for-4 and did not generate many great scoring chances. Their penalty
kill improved since Sunday’s dreadful performance, keeping the Remparts to just
one man advantage goal on four chances.
GRIGORENKO: The night belonged to rookie Mikhail
Grigorenko who netted a natural hat trick in the win. The Russian could have
easily had five or six markers in the contest.
Here is some video courtesy of HockeyProspect.com.
The Russian, who could be the first overall pick in the 2012 National Hockey League Entry Draft, now has 22 goals and 22 assists in
44 games.
DIVING: Patrick Roy, shockingly, had some good quotes
after the game. One of the more notable ones involved diving.
From Le Soleil, translated through Google.
The Remparts took advantage of a bad punishment of Sea Dogs, second, to open the scoring through Grigorenko, of course. "I can also tell you that Alexandre Despatie would not have won the gold medal," Roy illustrated in an image denouncing the Sea Dogs tend to dive.
The amusing part of Roy’s words is that Remparts goaltender Louis
Domingue clearly embellished some contact with Nathan Beaulieu in the first
period to draw a penalty. News 88.9’s Tim Roszell said Domingue “learned from
the master,” referring to his time spent with Nicola Riopel and the Moncton
Wildcats.
The Sea Dogs and Remparts meet again in February at
Harbour Station. A playoff matchup would be pure awesomeness.
PHILLIPS: Zack Phillips extended his point streak to 17
games with a goal in the third period. Bert has more on that - including video - in a separate post.
CROWD: 10,622 attended the Tuesday night, rescheduled game
at Pepsi Colisee. Only 1,143 showed up in Bathurst for the Sea Dogs game on
Sunday. Bit of a difference there.
QUICK HITS: There was some kind of pre-game ceremony
involving a mascot that looked like Rudolph… Oliver Cooper left in the second
period for a short time after taking a shot to the head from Ryan Culkin. He
later returned in the period… speaking of Cooper, it was rough night for him as
was a -3… Scott Oke had a Sea Dogs high five shots… Ryan Tesink had three hits.
NEXT GAME: The Sea Dogs return home to host the Cape
Breton Screaming Eagles on Friday at 7:30pm.
