SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs wrap-up their
three-in-three weekend this afternoon at Harbour Station, hosting the
Baie-Comeau Drakkar for a 3pm contest.
The Sea Dogs’ busy weekend has been a success so far, winning
7-3 in Prince Edward Island on Friday and then downing the Halifax Mooseheads
4-3 last night at the Station.
Saint John currently sits first overall in the Quebec Major
Junior Hockey League with an 18-6-0-0 record. They have won four straight
entering today’s game and are 9-1-0-0 in their last 10 contests.
The Dogs have been terrific on home ice this year. They
have a 10-1 record and have outscored opponents 63-25.
Like Saint John, Baie-Comeau will be playing their third
game in three nights this afternoon. The Drakkar beat the Mooseheads 3-2 in a
shootout on Friday and then fell 4-0 to the Moncton Wildcats last night.
Baie-Comeau sits last in the tough Telus East Division and 10th
overall in the league with a 12-9-0-0 record. They are only 3-7-0-0 on the road
this season.
The Sea Dogs and Drakkar have met twice already this
season with both contests being held in Baie-Comeau. On November 4, Mathieu
Corbeil made 30 stops to pick up the 7-0 shutout win. Zack Phillips, Spencer
MacDonald, Jonathan Huberdeau, Danick Gauthier, Kevin Gagne, Grant West, and
Oliver Cooper all scored for the Dogs.
Then on November 5, Nathan Beaulieu netted the game winner
at 14:52 of the third to give Saint John a 3-2 win. Tomas Jurco and Gagne also
scored while Sebastien Auger made 25 stops for the win.
NOTES: Alexandre Durette leads the Drakkar in scoring
with 10 goals and 14 assists for 24 points. Carl Gelinas has 23 points while
Raphael Bussieres has 22… Gelinas has scored a team leading 11 goals. Durette
has netted 10 goals… Frederic Gamelin has a Drakkar high 15 assists. Durette
and Bussieres each have 14 assists… Bussieres is a team best +12. Durette is a
+11… Felix Girard is a team worst -6… Gabriel Verpaelst has served 65 penalty
minutes, a team high… Gelinas has taken a team high 74 shots… Baie-Comeau has
the league’s sixth best power play with a rating of 25%... their penalty kill
is operating at 82.3%, good for fourth in the league.
IN NET: No idea who will start in goal today for the
Drakkar today. Antonio Mastropietro has played the most minutes and has a record of
6-4-0-0 with a 3.14 goals against average and a 0.890 save percentage. Jimmy
Appleby has a 6-5-0-0 record with a 2.40 GAA and a 0.909 save percentage.
LAST GAME: The Drakkar are coming off a 4-0 loss in
Moncton last night. Jimmy Appleby allowed three goals on 16 shots in the first
period and was replaced by Antonio Mastropietro. Through 40 minutes,
Mastropietro allowed a goal on 18 shots.

NOTES: Zack Phillips leads Saint John in scoring with 12
goals and 22 assists for 34 assists. Danick Gauthier is second with 32 points
while Jonathan Huberdeau has 28… Gauthier leads the team and the entire league
with an incredible 22 goals in 22 games. Phillips and Tomas Jurco both have 12
goals each… Phillips leads Saint John in assists with 22. Huberdeau is second
on the squad with 18… Charles-Olivier Roussel, Phillips and Gauthier are all a
team high +22… Ian Saab has served a team leading 69 penalty minutes… Gauthier
has scored five power play goals… Phillips has taken 86 shots to lead the team…
Saint John’s power play is ranked ninth in the league with a rating of 22.6%...
their penalty kill has a rating of 74.5%, good for 12th in the
league.
IN NET: Wouldn’t be a shock to see Sebastien Auger get
the start in goal today after Mathieu Corbeil started both Friday and Saturday’s
games. Auger is 4-1-0-0 with a 4.00 goals against average and a 0.856 save
percentage.
LAST GAME: Danick Gauthier scored twice while Tomas Jurco
and Grant West added singles in the Sea Dogs’ 4-3 win over the Halifax
Mooseheads last night at Harbour Station. Mathieu Corbeil made 33 saves for the
win.
