series 2-0.
PREVIEW
BAIE-COMEAU, Que. – The Baie-Comeau Drakkar’s season is basically
on the line tonight.
The Saint John Sea Dogs enter tonight’s contest with a commanding
2-0 lead in the best-of-seven quarter-final playoff series over the Drakkar. Game time is
8:30pm Atlantic (fun!) at what should be a loud and rowdy Henry Leonard Centre.
If Baie-Comeau loses they would fall behind 3-0 in the series and would need a
miracle to win it.
A win by the Drakkar tonight would certainly change the
outlook of this series. Saint John not only won the first two games, but they
won them fairly easily. The Sea Dogs outscored Baie-Comeau 19-5 at Harbour
Station on the weekend.
The Drakkar have really only played well for 30 minutes
in this series and that came in the first half of Game 1 on Friday. But once
the Sea Dogs started rolling, the visitors just could not keep up. What was a
tied game near the halfway point resulted in a 9-3 Saint John victory. The Dogs
got off to a much better start on Saturday and won easily by score of 10-2.
Not only were the Sea Dogs outscoring the Drakkar on
Saturday, but they were outhitting them as well. Saint John showed they are not
going to back down from physical play or fights. It’s been a chippy series so
far and that should continue tonight.
One thing Baie-Comeau might want to do is try to contain
Saint John in the second period, a period the Sea Dogs have dominated all
season. 26 of Saint John’s 53 playoff goals have come in the middle frame. They’ve
outscored the Drakkar 10-3 in second periods in this series.
The Drakkar won both of their first round home games,
outscoring Victoriaville 13-6. Game 3 of that series was an 8-2 Baie-Comeau
victory.
