The second-round of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League
playoffs are certainly making up for a dull first-round. After seven of the
eight matchups in round one were four-game sweeps, three of the four in the
quarterfinals will require a Game 7.
Tomorrow night, Halifax will play Quebec, Chicoutimi
takes on Shawinigan, and Rimouski travels to Blainville-Boisbriand to see which
teams will advance to the semifinals. Saint John has already moved on thanks to
a four-game sweep of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar.
Chicoutimi and Rimouski both forced a Game 7 with wins on
Sunday. Tonight, the Mooseheads stunned the Remparts with a 5-2 win in Game 6.
Quebec led this series 3-0 at one point but the Moose have climbed all the way
back to tie it a 3-3.
The kids came through for Halifax again on Monday. Jonathan Drouin
had two goals and two assists, Nathan MacKinnon a goal and two helpers, and
Zach Fucale made 33 saves in the win.
As for what team Saint John will play next…
- If Chicoutimi wins, the Sags will play Saint John.
- If Rimouski wins and Chicoutimi loses, the Oceanic will play Saint John.
- If Chicoutimi and Rimouski both lose, Saint John will play the winner of the Halifax/Quebec game.
So, the Sea Dogs could play Chicoutimi, Rimouski, Quebec, or
Halifax in the next round. Halifax would be awesome because it is road trip friendly.
Chicoutimi would be awesome because of the former Sea Dogs.
Quebec would awesome because, well, they're the Quebec Remparts. Rimouski would be awesome because
it’s Scott Oke City.
Tuesday’s don’t get any wilder than this in the QMJHL.
Buckle up.
