Saint John is now 9-2 all-time in playoff overtime games.
HERO: Stanislav Galiev was the game’s first star, scoring
two goals including the overtime winner. He was also a +2 and had eight shots.
He now has 12 goals and 26 points in 13 playoff games this year. He had 27
points in 19 playoff contests last season.
“Huge win tonight,” tweeted Galiev last night. “Going to
the finals 3 years in a row. Thank you all fans to support tonight.”
CORBEIL: Huge series for Mathieu Corbeil. He played one
of his best games last night, making 38 saves in the win. He made some
excellent stops all game long just like he had in the previous four games.
The 20-year old is now 12-0-1 with a 2.31 goals against
average and a 0.914 save percentage in the playoffs.
HUBERDEAU: Some controversy just 18 seconds into this one
as Jonathan Huberdeau hit Charles Hudon from behind. Hudon had to be helped off
the ice and did not return. Huberdeau did not receive a penalty on the play.
Here’s the video:
Sags head coach Marc-Etienne Hubert told Le Quotidien
after the game that he felt Huberdeau deserved five and a game for the hit.
VILLEMAIRE: Note the hit that Maxime Villemaire took at 1:40
of the SeaDogsTV video below just before Stanislav Galiev scored. Yikes. Refs weren't calling a whole lot last night.
HOME: Saint John improved to a perfect 7-0 at home in the
playoffs with the win. They have outscored opponents 53-16.
SOLD OUT: Saint John finally sold out a playoff game on
Saturday with 6,311 tickets sold for this one. There was a great atmosphere as well, like all playoff games should have.
The Sea Dogs are now averaging 5,281 fans per game this
post-season.
VIDEO: Great video of last night's celebrations.
The handshakes.
NOTES: Galiev had a Sea Dogs high eight shots… bunch of
Sea Dogs had three hits… bunch of Chicoutimi players had five shots… Andrew O’Brien
had four hits… Steve Lebel had a goal, two assists, and was a +3 in the loss…
after a solid two games in Chicoutimi, Jean-Gabriel Pageau was held pointless
and was a -3… Saint John’s penalty kill was good again last night. The Sags
went 0-for-4 on the power play… Galiev’s
OT winner came during some four-on-four play with O’Brien and Huberdeau in the
box… what a series… see you Friday night.
