The former Saint John Sea Dogs forward has just one
assist in nine American Hockey League games with the Hershey Bears this season.
According to PennLive.com, Galiev had been a healthy scratch in three straight
games before playing on Sunday.
This afternoon it was announced that the talented Russian
forward had been assigned to the East Coast Hockey League’s Reading Royals, the
‘AA’ affiliate of the Washington Capitals. The Royals website has him listed on their lineup sheet for tonight’s game against Maxime Clermont and the Elmira
Jackals.
For some perspective on this, we turn to some tweets from
Corey Pronman, the wise man who writes for HockeyProspectus.com.
The reassignment isnt good but still like long term projection. Doubt long stint in ECHL. RT @ngreenberg: @coreypronman prognosis on Galiev?

Always a decent chance Galiev would have a somewhat rough landing in pro hockey. Give him a few months before real concerns rise.

On the flipside of course, top prospects dont tend to go to the ECHL.

@japersrink but like I said, its not good, its not really bad, hes a talented player. Lets give any sort of verdict some time.

Yes, part of why Im not concerned MT @carlpeelash: @coreypronman from what I saw of Galiev in JR he has a looong way to go strength-wise.

Galiev, a third round pick of the Capitals in 2010, had
19 points in 20 regular season games with Saint John last season an added
another 34 in 17 playoff games.
