SaintJohnSeaDogs.com’s recap. The Saint John Sea Dogs took on the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action Sunday afternoon. The Harbour Station crowd of 3,214 saw the Sea Dogs come out on top 5-4.

MISSING IN ACTION: Forward Mackenzie Brown and defenseman Benjamin Hade were still out injured. Ryan Kelly, Jason Seed, Andreas Tsogkas, Stephen Anderson, and Devon Oliver-Dares also did not play.

According to the Telegraph-Journal, Oliver-Dares, who didn't play in either game this weekend, has left the team for personal reasons.

FIRST PERIOD: Thanks to three power plays, Baie-Comeau was outshooting Saint John by a wide margin throughout most of the first period. But it would be the Sea Dogs scoring first as Pierre Durepos banged the puck in during a scramble on a power play to give the home team a 1-0 advantage after one. Shots finished 15-6 in favour of the Drakkar.

SECOND: The Sea Dogs turned it on in the second. They scored three goals and out shot Baie-Comeau 14-9 in the frame to lead 4-0 after two.

REPE: Defenseman Jurij Repe scored his second goal of the season on a power play just 39 seconds into the second period. Not long after that goal, Repe was injured in the corner. He had to be helped off the ice and did not look too good when leaving. He did not return.

TESINK: Ryan Tesink netted his 15th goal of the season in the second period. The St. Louis Blues prospect now has 27 points in 23 games this season.

GOALIES: Simon Lemieux was pulled from the Drakkar net after allowing Saint John’s third goal at 6:59 of the second. He gave up three goals on 15 shots. Philippe Cadorette took over the Drakkar net and allowed two goals on nine shots in relief.

At the other end, Sebastien Auger was solid once again. He made 38 saves in the win.

HUBERDEAU: Sea Dogs captain Jonathan Huberdeau registered three assists yesterday. He is now three points back of tying Michael Kirkpatrick’s franchise point record. Huberdeau now has 13 goals and 23 assists in 25 games.

COLLAPSE: The Sea Dogs had a four goal lead in the third period and nearly blew it. Saint John had a 4-0 lead and a 5-1 lead but the game ended with a 5-4 final. It was all Drakkar in the final frame, out shooting the Sea Dogs 18-4.

ROUGHING: Things got wild after the final buzzer blew. The Sea Dogs bench left the ice to celebrate the win and some rough stuff broke out. The Drakkar bench joined them in what could have been an ugly incident. Not a whole happened though with only five players being given penalties.

Something went down between Michael Mastrangelo and Alexis Vanier who both picked up fighting majors. Mastrangelo, who came up off the ice holding his hand in pain, earned a “physical abuse of officials” penalty. Not sure what happened there.

Interesting to note that Eric Veilleux, who coached Shawinigan last year, is now the bench boss for the Drakkar. Remember what happened between the Sea Dogs and Cataractes in the final game of the Memorial Cup round robin.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Both teams scored two power play goals. Baie-Comeau went 2-for-6 and Saint John went 2-for-4.

VS B-C: This was the final meeting of the regular season between the Sea Dogs and Drakkar. Each team won one game.

STANDINGS: Saint John is now above the .500 mark with a 13-12-0-0 record. The Dogs sit fourth in the Telus Maritimes Division and 12th overall in the league.

COMMISH: QMJHL commissioner Gilles Courteau was in the house yesterday.

NOTES: It was Special Olympics night at Harbour Station… light crowd of 3,214 in attendance… Pierre Durepos scored his first goal of the season… David Weckworth was +3… Ryan Tesink had four shots… Stephen MacAulay had three hits… Miguel Caron had two goals. He had no goals entering this game… Samuel Noreau and Raphael Bussieres both had seven shots… the Q site says Bussieres had eight hits... Saint John is 4-10-0-0 when being out shot by an opponent… the third period of this game is what makes junior hockey awesome... what was up with that goal song?
