Our recap. The Sea Dogs began their three away game
weekend as they travelled to Sherbrooke to take on the Phoenix at the Palais
des Sports Leopold-Drolet on Friday night.

Sea Dogs doubled the Sherbrooke Phoenix 8-4 on Friday night to climb above the
.500 mark in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

SaintJohnSeaDogs.com’s recap. The first-ever meeting
between the Saint John Sea Dogs and the Sherbrooke Phoenix ended with the Sea
Dogs coming up on top of an 8-4 decision. The Palais des Sports Léopold-Drolet
was packed with 3,449 for Friday night’s Quebec Major Junior Hockey League
action.

MISSING IN ACTION: The Sea Dogs were without Benjamin
Hade, Matthew Highmore, Mackenzie Brown, Pierre Durepos, Spencer Smallman, Ryan
Kelly, and Michael Mastrangelo on Friday night.
FIRST: It was a wild first period last night in
Sherbrooke. The two teams combined to score six goals in the opening frame and
the match was tied 3-3 heading to intermission. Saint John opened the scoring
just 1:02 into the game. Sherbrooke then took the lead until Devon Oliver-Dares
tied it. Sherbrooke took another lead after that but, once again, Oliver-Dares
tied it. Shots were 10-9 Phoenix in the first.
SECOND: After a tough first period, the Sea Dogs really
turned it on the second period. They outshot the Phoenix 23-9 and scored three
goals. Sherbrooke scored late in the period to make it 6-4 Dogs after two.
MacAULAY: Big night for Stephen MacAulay. The 20-year old
netted his second hat trick of the season in the victory. His power play
dominance continued as two of his the three goals were scored on the man advantage.
MacAulay now has 11 goals and eight assists in 15 games. Nine of his 11 goals have
been on the power play.
HUBERDEAU: Jonathan Huberdeau had four assists which was
a season high for points in a single game. He now has 11 goals and 16 assists
in 27 games. He’s also on a four-game point streak.
DOD: Devon Oliver-Dares had a strong night, scoring
twice, recording two shots, had three hits, and was a +2. Oliver-Dares now has
three goals and three assists in 17 games this year.
AUDETTE: Daniel Audette, the first overall pick in the
QMJHL Entry Draft this past June, scored his third goal of the season in the
first period. He now has six points on the season in 16 games.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Both teams had their power plays clicking.
Saint John went 3-for-7 while Sherbrooke went 4-for-6. All of Sherbrooke’s
goals came on the man advantage. The Dogs also had one shorthanded goal.
STANDINGS: Saint John moved above the .500 mark with the
win. They now have a record of 10-9-0-0 and sit fifth in the Telus Maritimes
Division and 12th overall in the league.
Sherbrooke fell to 3-15-1-1 and still sit last in the league.
NOTES: Jonathan Huberdeau had a Sea Dogs high eight shots…
Jason Seed, Stephen Anderson, and Oliver Cooper were the only Sea Dogs without
shots on goal… Kevin Gagne was a +4… Steven Duda was a +3… Olivier LeBlanc had
four hits… Jeremy Beaudry had five shots for Sherbrooke… Mathieu Laverdure had
four hits… the Sea Dogs are now 3-2-0-0 against Telus West Division teams.
