SaintJohnSeaDogs.com’s recap. The Saint John Sea Dogs
were playing in their third game in as many nights and fell to the
Blainville-Boisbriand Armada 8-1 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action
Sunday.
SCRATCHES: The Sea Dogs were without Benjamin Hade,
Matthew Highmore, Mackenzie Brown, Pierre Durepos, Spencer Smallman, Michael
Mastrangelo, and Jurij Repe on Sunday afternoon.
According to News 88.9, Michael Mastrangelo received a
two-game suspension for his fight on Saturday night. Jurij Repe was out with an
“upper body injury” that he suffered in the first period of Saturday’s game.
Jason Seed and Jakub Izacky – who were both hurt on
Friday in Sherbrooke and did not play on Saturday – returned to the Saint John
lineup.
FIRST PERIOD: The first period was a decent road period
for the Sea Dogs especially considering they were playing their third game in
three days. The Armada led just 1-0 after one and outshot Saint John 13-5. The
Dogs had two power play opportunities but failed to connect on either.
SECOND: It wasn’t a bad second period for Saint John. They were outshot just 12-9. The Dogs tied the game at 1-1 just 50 seconds into the frame but would allow three goals to give the Armada a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes. The Sea Dogs had quite a few solid scoring opportunities but could not beat Etienne Marcoux in the BLB net.
TESINK: Ryan Tesink scored Saint John’s only goal in the
game to extend his goal scoring streak to seven games. The seven-game streak
breaks the previous team record of six which was held by Jonathan Huberdeau
(twice), Michael Kirkpatrick, and Scott Howes, reports News 88.9.
The St. Louis Blues prospect now has 11 goals and 11
assists in 19 games this season.
HUBERDEAU: Jonathan Huberdeau assisted on Tesink’s goal
extending his point streak to six games. Huberdeau now has 12 goals and 17
assists in 21 games this year.
THIRD: The Armada scored four times and outshot Saint
John 18-4 in the third period. Not pretty.
SHOTS: Final shots on goals were 43-18 for the Armada.
That was slightly better than Saturday’s game in Drummondville where the Sea
Dogs were outshot 44-17.
AUGER: Sebastien Auger now leads the league in minutes
played. He is also third in saves with 512. He made 35 in the loss yesterday.
CUOMO: Marcus Cuomo picked up an instigator at 19:43 of
the third, meaning he will be given a suspension. Not the best move by the Sea
Dogs’ rookie forward.
MARTEL: Danick Martel was in beast mode for the Armada
yesterday. He recorded a hat trick to give him six goals on the season. He
completed his trio of goals with just three seconds left.
ROAD TRIP: Saint John’s three-in-three road trip came to
an end with yesterday’s loss. They finish the trip with a 1-2-0-0 record and
were outscored 18-11.
STANDINGS: The Sea Dogs fell back below the .500 mark and
now have a record of 10-11-0-0. They sit fifth in the Telus Maritimes Division
and 13th overall in the league.
NOTES: This was the final meeting between the Sea Dogs
and Armada this regular season… Jeff Lansing provided colour commentary on News
88.9 once again… Steven Duda celebrated his 18th birthday yesterday… Duda, Jason Cameron, and Aidan Kelly were all a -4… Elie Berube, Julien
Bahl, and Marcus Hinds were all a +4… Stefan Matteau and Danick Martel each had
seven shots… there were only three penalties called in the first two periods.
Things exploded in the third.
