RECAP: Light It Up. Dogs Win 8-4.

FINAL: Saint John 8, Sherbrooke 4

The Sea Dogs began their three away game weekend as they travelled to Sherbrooke to take on the Phoenix at the Palais des Sports Leopold-Drolet on Friday night.

Guarding the goal for Saint John was Sebastien Auger while Jack Flinn stepped into goal for the Phoenix.

FIRST PERIOD
Sherbrooke took the first penalty as Simon Desbiens gets sent off for hooking, just 20 seconds into play.

Saint John started things off on a high as Stephen MacAulay scored the first goal for the Sea Dogs at only 1:02 into the period. Jonathan Huberdeau and Jason Seed each snagged an assist on that one.

Kevin Gagne found himself heading to the penalty box at 4:43 however as he was sent off for interference.

Daniel Audette tied the score with power play goal at 5:39.

Steven Duda sent the Phoenix on another power play at 7:33, resulting in Jeremy Beaudry scoring the second Phoenix goal at 9:08.

Sherbrooke’s lead was short lived however as Devon Oliver-Dares tied the score 2-2 thanks to assists from Jakub Izacky and Andreas Tsogkas at 9:56.

Another Sea Dog penalty took place at 10:03, and Jurij Repe headed off for hooking.

The Phoenix capitalized on the power play once again and scored their third power play goal of the evening thanks to Cole Hawes at 11:09.

The last goal of the period went to Saint John however. With another amazing goal, Devon Oliver-Dares once again tied the game. Duda and Huberdeau each grabbed assists and the period would end 3-3.

SECOND PERIOD
The Sea Dogs pretty much dominated the second period.

Once again, Saint John got the scoring going early. Only 43 seconds into the period Stephen MacAulay scored for Saint John. Jonathan Huberdeau and Kevin Gagne each took an assist on the fourth goal.

Alexis Bernier received a slashing call at 3:29, sending Saint John on the power play.

Stephen MacAulay took a high-sticking penalty at 7:26.

Sherbrooke sent the Sea Dogs back to the powerplay at 9:51 with Jonathan Deschamps’ tripping call.

Jakub Izacky returned the favour with a goal of his own at 10:44, yet another power play goal for Saint John, thanks to an assist from Olivier LeBlanc.

Goal number six came at 12:55 as Marcus Cuomo scored an unassisted goal.

The Phoenix were handed a penalty at 14:31 as Alexandre Sills headed to the box for hooking.

Devon Oliver-Dares got involved in a bit of a brawl and somehow managed to pull the only penalty at 18:52 for roughing. The Saint John coaching staff were not happy at all with that call.

Sherbrooke closed the gap slightly to 6-4 with a power play goal from Jeremy Beaudry at 19:06.

THIRD PERIOD
The third period was pretty uneventful until Steven Duda took the first penalty of the period at 9:05 for interference.

Ryan Tesink scored an unassisted, short-handed goal, increasing Saint John’s lead to 7-4 at 10:49.

Jeremy Beaudry was sent off for hooking at 11:43.

Alexandre Comtois pulled a cross checking penalty at 14:54

It was a good night for Stephen MacAulay as he scored his hat trick goal at 15:20, with Jonathan Huberdeau and Ryan Tesink taking the assists.

Izacky then took a hard hit and went down. Marcus Cuomo came to his defense and before anyone knew what was going on, a number of fights broke out. When the dust settled both sides had people in the box and Saint John had a one man advantage.

Seconds later, at puck drop, Vincent Richer was ejected from the game and given a 10-minute misconduct.

Saint John would end the period victorious 8-4. Final shots on goal were 48-27 in favour of Saint John.
