The Saint John Sea Dogs travel to Quebec for the final time this regular season this week.
The Sea Dogs visit the Baie-Comeau Drakkar and Chicoutimi Sagueneens on Thursday and Friday, respectively, before wrapping up the trip with a Sunday afternoon game in Shawinigan.
The Sea Dogs don't play these three teams too often but they have all met very recently. The Sagueneens visited Saint John on Jan. 23, the Drakkar on Feb. 8 and the Cataractes on Feb. 15. Saint John lost all three of those games.
Against Quebec based clubs this season, the Sea Dogs are 6-15-0-0
Saint John will look to end an eight-game losing streak on this trip. Their last win was Jan. 26 in Halifax.
PLAYOFF UPDATE
While this will be the final regular season trip to Quebec for the Sea Dogs, they will very likely face a Quebec club in the opening round of the playoffs – if they qualify, of course.
The Gatineau Olympiques earned a big 2-1 shootout win over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada on Saturday, pushing them within two points of the Sea Dogs for that 16th and final playoff spot.
Gatineau didn't play Sunday or Monday, so they now have a game in hand on Saint John.
The Olympiques will host the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies on Friday and visit the Sherbrooke Phoenix on Sunday.
NEW VIDEO
The latest "Closer To The Game presented by TD" video has been released.
The second video in the series focuses on Saint John's Teddy Bear Toss game. It also includes a behind the scenes look at team owner Scott McCain speaking to front office employees.
NUMBER TALK
No. 3 would seem like a fairly common number to wear, but Julien Bonnet is the first Sea Dog to wear the number since Thomas Ashe sported it for two games during the 2017-18 season.
The last Sea Dog to wear No. 3 that was a regular in the lineup was former captain Olivier Leblanc, who wore it from 2012-2015.
While Leblanc wore No. 3 the longest, Charlie Coyle – who spent just half a season in Saint John – might be the most well known to wear it.
Newcomer John Lumsden, meanwhile, is the first Sea Dog to ever wear No. 59.
Goaltender Eric Young joins a long list of Saint John netminders to wear No. 1. Travis Fullerton has worn the number the most, wearing it for 119 games.
Reinhart is having an excellent overage season with a bad Val-d'Or Foreurs squad, posting 31 goals and 25 assists in 39 games. He also had a goal and three assists in 11 games with the Cape Breton Eagles before being dealt to Val-d'Or.
The 20-year-old split last season between the Sea Dogs and Drummondville Voltigeurs, helping the Volts win a QMJHL title.
The Huskies play in the CCHA conference, which most would consider to be a step below the "power conferences" of Hockey East, the Big 10 and the NCHC. Minnesota State has been the most prominent team in the CCHA for some time now.
Reinhart was no doubt drawing a lot of interest from Canadian schools. U Sports is really going to take a hit from the NCAA rule change.
EMOND TO EUROPE
Former Sea Dogs goaltender Zachary Emond has moved oversaes.
It was announced last week that Emond has left the ECHL's Trois-Rivieres Lions to join HC Banska Bystrica in Slovakia. It's the first time Emond has signed outside North America.
The 24-year-old is in his fourth season of pro hockey, which has seen him make stops in both the AHL and ECHL. In 13 games with the Lions this season, Emond went 10-3-0 with a 2.21 goals against average and a .927 save percentage.
Emond appeared in 13 regular season games and six "playoff" contests with the Sea Dogs during the 2020-21 COVID season.
OTHER STUFF
The Telegraph-Journal spoke to Bryce Cunningham of the Sussex Regional High School Sonics. The 16-year-old forward was the Dog Bowl MVP, earning an invite to Sea Dogs training camp in August.
I've lost count how many times former Sea Dogs goaltender Karel St. Laurent has practiced with NHL teams.

The AUS men's hockey regular season ended this weekend. UNB and Moncton earned first round byes. UPEI will face Saint Mary's while StFX will play Acadia in the opening round. Dalhousie missed the playoffs.
It's playoff season! The stage is now set for the quarter-final round of the 2025 Bell AUS Men's Hockey Championship.🏒🏆
A Canadian Chamber of Commerce report has Saint John at the top of the list of Canadian cities that would be most hurt by tariffs from the United States, writes CBC. Not ideal!
It certainly sounds like the BCHL's Penticton Vees will be joining the WHL as an expansion team next season. The OHL and QMJHL have been in the news quite a bit this season about their desires to expand, but it looks like the WHL will be the only league to get it done for next season.
