GAME DAY 65: vs Wildcats

Losers of three straight, the Saint John Sea Dogs (41-18-5-0, 87 points, 1st Maritimes, 3rd QMJHL) look to get back on track tonight at 7 p.m. when they host the Moncton Wildcats (36-19-9-1, 82 points, 2nd Maritimes, 6th QMJHL).

Last games: The Wildcats are coming off a 6-2 win in Halifax last night. Conor Garland had two goals while singles came from Kelly Klima, Stephen Johnson, Lane Cormier and Cody Donaghey. Keven Bouchard made 30 saves in the victory. The Sea Dogs are coming off a 5-3 loss to the Charlottetown Islanders last night at Harbour Station. Bokondji Imama, Matthew Highmore and Sam Povorozniouk scored in the loss. Marc-Antoine Turcotte made 34 saves.

2015-16 head-to-head: The Sea Dogs are 2-5-1-0 against the Wildcats this season while Moncton is 6-2-0-0 against Saint John.

Last meeting: Wednesday night in Moncton where the Wildcats defeated the Sea Dogs 7-4. Manuel Wiederer had a hat trick for Moncton while solo markers came courtesy of Kelly Klima, Will Smith, Zack MacEwen and Vaclav Karabacek. Saint John goals came from Daniel Del Paggio, Nathan Noel, Matthew Highmore and Oliver Felixson. Keven Bouchard made 32 saves in the win. Marc-Antoine Turcotte made 29 in the loss.

Player to watch: Matthew Highmore, who has taken over the Sea Dogs’ team scoring lead with 74 points, has registered three goals and 10 assists in his past seven games.

Three Things to Know
1. The Wildcats, Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and Victoriaville Tigres are the only teams the Sea Dogs have a losing record against this season.

2. Following last night’s loss, the Sea Dogs have failed to clinch the Maritimes Division on three different occasions. They will try to clinch again tonight.

3. Conor Garland has five goals and eight assists in seven games against Saint John this season.

Notes: The Sea Dogs are 22-9-2-0 at home this season and had a seven-game home winning streak come to an end last night… the Wildcats are 18-10-5-0 on the road this season… Matthew Highmore has assists in six straight games… Sam Povorozniouk has goals in four straight home games… Conor Garland has points in 31 straight road games.
