UNB Wins Gold In AUS Sweep

The UNB Varsity Reds are national champions once again.

For the the fifth time in 10 years and sixth time in school history, the Varsity Reds captured the CIS University Cup championship. UNB had a dominant performance at this year’s tournament, winning three games in three days and outscoring opponents 12-2.

UNB defeated the St. Francis Xavier X-Men 3-1 in yesterday’s gold medal game at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax. Former Sea Dogs Mike Thomas and Stephen Anderson were both scratched for UNB. Mark Tremaine was in the X lineup.

Thomas red shirted with UNB when they won their last national title in 2013.

Atlantic University Sport swept the podium this year with Stephen MacAulay and the Saint Mary’s Huskies winning bronze by defeating the Saskatchewan Huskies 5-2 yesterday afternoon.
