RECAP: Sea Dogs lose 10-4

FINAL: Charlottetown 10, Saint John 4
SAINT JOHN - For a third straight home game, the Saint John Sea Dogs got smoked.

After falling 5-0 and 9-2 to the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles at Harbour Station last weekend, the team returned home only to get hammered again - this time by score of 10-4 to the Charlottetown Islanders on Sunday afternoon.

As has been the case for much of the season, the Sea Dogs were in a close battle up until the third period but then let things slip away. On Sunday, the Dogs gave up five goals and were outshot 17-7.

Former Sea Dogs Daniel Hardie and Kevin Gursoy had great days against their old team. Hardie was named first star with two goals and three assists while Gursoy recorded four assists in a third star performance. Hunter Drew and Keith Getson also recorded two goals each while singles came from Brett Budgell, Nikita Alexandrov, Thomas Casey and Derek Gentile. Matthew Welsh made 28 stops in the win.

Anthony Boucher, Nicholas Deakin-Poot, Yohan Plamondon and Brady Burns all scored for Saint John. Alex D'Orio allowed all 10 goals on 39 shots.

If there was any positive, it's that Saint John was able to record three power play goals on five attempts and did not give Charlottetown a single man advantage.

Saint John now carries a seven-game losing streak into their six-game Quebec road trip. The Dogs, who are the lone team in the QMJHL without a road victory this season, will play their next seven matches away from Harbour Station due to the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Things are going to get harder before they get any easier.

Charlottetown has won seven straight games... Yohan Plamondon has goals in four straight games... Nikita Alexandrov extended his goal streak to three games.
