RECAP: Sea Dogs win 5-3

FINAL: Cape Breton 3, Saint John 5

SAINT JOHN - The streak is over.

The Saint John Sea Dogs ended a six-game losing skid on Tuesday night at Harbour Station, defeating the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 5-3. It was the club's second win of the season and first since Sept. 23.

In the victory, the Sea Dogs did a couple things they had not done this season: lead after a first period and score on the power play. Saint John did both in this game: leading after 20 minutes for the first time and scoring their first man advantage goal of the year to break a 0/30 slump.

Saint John adjusted their top line, replacing William Poirier on the wing with Anthony Boucher. The move seemed to work as Boucher scored a pair of goals while playing with linemates Josh Lawrence and Maxim Cajkovic. Saint John's top line has struggled to produce over the past few games, but the adjustment seemed to spark them. Cajkovic also had a goal to go along with six shots.

The suddenly hot Yohan Plamondon scored Saint John's other two goals (one being an empty netter). Plamondon now has points in four straight games and goals in three.

Alex D'Orio had one of his best starts of the season, making 36 stops. All in all, it was a good night for the Sea Dogs - a night the team no doubt hopes to replicate moving forward.

Mitchell Balmas, Brooklyn Kalmikov and Ryan Francis scored for Cape Breton. Kevin Mandolese was pulled after allowing three goals on 10 shots 21:13 of play. William Grimard made 16 stops in relief.

SCRATCHES: The Sea Dogs were without forwards Brady Burns, Nicholas Deakin-Poot and Christian Clark; along with defensmen Nathan Larose and Carson Gallant.

NOTES: Alex D'Orio registered an assist on Saint John's empty net goal... former Sea Dogs Isiah Campbell and Ian Smallwood were both held pointless... Maxim Cajkovic recorded his first point in four games... Brendan Sibley now has three assists in four games... the official attendance was only 2,379... the Screaming Eagles have a very bizarre schedule. They now head to Quebec City to begin a three-in-three Quebec road trip on Thursday.
