Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored a hat trick and Brett Ritchie added a pair of goals in the win. Canada has now outscored their opponents 13-6 in their two games at the tournament.
“Our game was better today so I think I can comfortably say that we've gotten better every day since camp,” head coach George Burnett said in a phone interview with the Canadian Press. “That's the big challenge – that you try to be better every day.”
Dougie Hamilton and Xavier Ouellet also had goals for the Canadians.
After going pointless in his first game of the tournament on Monday, Saint John Sea Dogs forward Jonathan Huberdeau found the score sheet by chipping in two assists. His first came on Ritchie’s second period goal and his second on Ouellet’s third period marker.
Huberdeau also sat in the sin bin at 11:34 of the third period after receiving a charging penalty.
Canada outshot the Swiss 40-24 in the game but were outshot 11-6 in the final frame.
Tomorrow, the red and white will play their final game of the preliminary round when they face Slovakia.
“We're going to go about it like getting job done tomorrow is critically important,” said Burnett.
“I think it's important for our psyche to continue to win.”
