VERMETTE NAMED HEAD SCOUT

Today, the Saint John Sea Dogs named their replacement for the Head Scouting position that was created when Norm Gosselin left to join the National Hockey League’s Phoenix Coyotes last month.

Sea Dogs Director of Hockey Operations Mike Kelly announced this afternoon that Christian Vermette will be the teams new Head Scout.

“Christian has a great reputation throughout the hockey world and we’re pleased to be promoting him to this new position within our organization,” said Kelly in a press release.

Although when Gosselin departed his title was “Director of Player Development,” he had served as the team’s Head Scout until 2009.

According to the QMJHL website, Vermette joined the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in 2002 as an assistant coach and was employed by the team until 2005. He then joined the Sea Dogs scouting staff in their inaugural season in 2005-06.

From the Sea Dogs press release:

A native of Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, QC, Vermette has over 13 years of minor hockey coaching experience in his home province, a total which includes four seasons with the LĂ©vis Commandeurs, two of which were spent as the powerhouse QCMAAA squad's Head Coach.
