Some Friday Night Stuff

A few things…

  • Kevin Gagne made his Rimouski Oceanic debut tonight. He registered an assist, three shots, a +1 rating, and took a minor penalty as he helped the Oceanic defeat the Victoriaville Tigres 3-1. His assist came on an Anthony DeLuca goal in the second period.
  • Rimouski sits second overall in the QMJHL standings. They are 10 points back of the league-leading Halifax Mooseheads.
  • There was some exhibition action at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge tonight. Sea Dogs defenseman Olivier LeBlanc had an assist in Quebec’s 6-4 loss to Russia in Victoriaville. Elsewhere, Sea Dogs forward Matthew Highmore and Team Atlantic lost 5-3 to Finland.
  • The Under-17 tournament gets underway for real tomorrow night. Team Atlantic will play Team Quebec at 8:30pm in Victoriaville.
  • Happy 20th birthday to former Sea Dog Tomas Jurco.
  • Reminder that the UNB Varsity Reds take on the MHL Red Stars of Russia on Sunday afternoon at Harbour Station. Plenty of tickets available. The game in Fredericton on Monday is sold out.
  • The Saint John Mill Rats are on a roll. They won their sixth straight game tonight and improved to 10-7.

The Sea Dogs are back in action tomorrow night at 7pm at Harbour Station when they host the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. Saint John sits 13th overall in the league with 32 points while Bathurst sits 14th with 31 points.
