Two Points For Huberdeau And Highmore

FINAL: Russia 1, Canada 4
Team Canada will advance straight to the semi-final at the 2013 World Junior Hockey Championship thanks to a 4-1 victory over Russia today.

Dougie Hamilton, Mark Scheifele, Jonathan Drouin, and Jonathan Huberdeau scored for the Canadians. Russia’s only goal came courtesy of Rouyn-Noranda Huskies forward Nikita Kucherov. Malcolm Subban made 21 saves in the win while former Lewiston Maineiacs goaltender Andrei Makarov made 44 in the loss.

Huberdeau finished the game with an empty net goal, an assist, two shots, and a +1 rating.

Canada finishes the round-robin portion of the tournament with a perfect 4-0-0-0 record and receive a bye straight through to the semi-final on Thursday. They’ll play the winner of the United States – Czech Republic quarter-final game.

FINAL: Slovakia 1, Atlantic 4
At the World Under-17 Hockey Championship, Team Atlantic defeated Slovakia 4-1 in Victoriaville.

Sea Dogs forward Matthew Highmore played a key role in the victory, recording two assists. Kameron Kielly scored twice while singles came from Josh Pugsley and Liam Hynes. Mason McDonald made 31 saves.

Highmore also took a hooking penalty in the third period.

Team Atlantic plays Ontario tomorrow at 2:30pm in Drummondville.

FINAL: USA 5, Quebec 1
Team USA defeated Team Quebec 5-1 tonight at the under-17s in Victoriaville.

Sea Dogs defenseman Olivier LeBlanc took a roughing penalty in the first period.

Quebec plays Slovakia tomorrow at 8:30pm in Drummondville.
