SYDNEY, NS – The first half of the 2013-14 Quebec Major
Junior Hockey League season comes to an end for the Saint John Sea Dogs this
weekend.
The Sea Dogs are in Cape Breton to battle the Screaming
Eagles tonight and tomorrow night at 7pm. With last Sunday’s game in Moncton
getting cancelled, the Dogs will play game 34 of 68 this evening and 35
tomorrow.
It has not been a good first half for the rebuilding Sea
Dogs. They sit in last place in the 18-team QMJHL with a 7-23-0-3 record.
Shawinigan is tied with Saint John with 17 points but the Cataractes have
played two more games.
Saint John got off to a decent start but the past two
months have been rough to say the least. Going into tonight’s game they have
lost five straight and are 1-8-0-1 in their last 10.
Oliver Cooper leads the Dogs in scoring with 11 goals and
18 assists for 29 points. Rookie Nathan Noel also has a team high 11 goals.
Meanwhile, the Screaming Eagles are having their best
season in years. They sit second in the Telus Maritimes Division and 10th
overall with a 19-13-0-3 record. They are 7-3 in their last 10.
American Cameron Darcy continues to lead Cape Breton in
scoring with 22 goals and 26 assists for 48 points in 35 games.

LAST GAMES
The Sea Dogs are coming off a 2-1 loss in Charlottetown
last Friday. Oliver Cooper scored Saint John’s only goal while Sebastien Auger
made 45 saves in the loss.
The Screaming Eagles are coming off a 3-1 loss in Moncton
on Wednesday night. Charles-Eric Legare scored Cape Breton’s lone goal while Alex
Bureau made 15 stops in the loss.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
The Sea Dogs are 0-2-0-1 against the Screaming Eagles
this season while Cape Breton is 3-0-0-0 against Saint John.
Their last meeting was that wild 9-6 Screaming Eagles win
at Harbour Station on December 7th. Cameron Darcy had a hat trick in
that game, Raphael Corriveau scored twice, and Cape Breton singles came from
Kyle Farrell, Bradley Lalonde, Justin Hache, and Michael Lyle. Saint John had
goals from Jason Cameron, Spencer Smallman, Nathan Noel, Oliver Cooper, Jurij
Repe, and Stephen Anderson. Chase Marchand and Alex Bureau combined for 16
saves on 22 shots while Sebastien Auger and Antoine Landry combined for 38
saves on 47 shots.
