SAINT JOHN - Overage defenseman Nate Tivey has been named captain of the Saint John Sea Dogs.

Tivey replaces Eriks Mateiko, who was traded to the Rimouski Oceanic earlier this month. The d-man will make his debut as captain on Thursday night when the Sea Dogs host the Chicoutimi Sagueneens.

Tivey is in his third season with the Sea Dogs and has led the squad in scoring for most of it. He's posted five goals and 25 assists in 40 games.

Matteo Mann will act as an associate captain while Jacob Beaulieu, Nicolas Bilodeau, Olivier Groulx and Tyler Peddle will all be alternate captains, the team also announced Thursday. Beaulieu and Bilodeau will each wear an A on the road while Groulx and Peddle will each wear an A at home.

Tivey and Mann are both in their final seasons of junior hockey. Beaulieu, Bilodeau and Peddle are all QMJHL veterans at this point.

Groulx, 17, is the youngest player to receive a letter. He is in his second season with Saint John after appearing in 27 games with the club last year.
