Game Day 40: vs Islanders

SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs play the second game of a five-game home stretch tonight at TD Station.

The Sea Dogs will look to make a lot of improvements from last Sunday's 5-1 loss to the Halifax Mooseheads, a game that saw them struggle at both ends of the ice from start to finish. It's been a rough stretch for the Sea Dogs who have just one win so far in the second half.

The Sea Dogs host a Charlottetown Islanders team that had a five-game winning streak come to an end last night in Moncton. The Isles have found new life in the second half following a number of roster tweaks. They sit three points ahead of the Sea Dogs in the standings, making every remaining game between the two an important one.

Game time tonight is 7 p.m. The Sea Dogs will be wearing "Style & Flow" themed jerseys.

2024-25 regular season records: The Sea Dogs are 17-22-0-0 for 34 points (fifth Maritimes/ninth Eastern/14th QMJHL) while the Islanders are 17-20-2-1 for 37 points (fourth Maritimes/eighth Eastern/13th QMJHL).

Last games: The Sea Dogs are coming off a 5-1 loss to the Halifax Mooseheads on Sunday at TD Station. William Yared scored Saint John's lone goal. Justin Robinson made 35 saves in the loss. The Islanders are coming off a 5-2 loss in Moncton last night. Ethan Montroy and Maxwell Jardine scored Charlottetown goals. Nicolas Ruccia made 27 saves in the loss.

2024-25 head-to-head: The Sea Dogs are 3-3-0-0 against the Islanders this season while Charlottetown is 3-3-0-0 against Saint John.
 
Last meeting: Jan. 4 in Charlottetown where the Islanders defeated the Sea Dogs 5-1. Marcus Kearsey, Maxwell Jardine, Jabez Seymour, Simon Hughes and Nathan Leek all scored for Charlottetown. Saint John's lone goal came from Benjamin Amyot. Nicolas Ruccia made 22 stops in the win. Charles-Edward Gravel was pulled after allowing two goals on six shots while Justin Robinson allowed three goals on 23 shots in relief.

Islander to watch: Matthew Butler has eight points (two goals and six assists) in six games against Saint John this season.

Random stat: Four of Tyler Peddle's 10 goals this season have come against the Islanders.

Notes: Nate Tivey leads Saint John in points with 29 and assists with 25... Zachary Morin, Olivier Groulx and Tyler Peddle all lead the team in goals with 10... Ross Campbell leads Charlottetown in points with 35 and goals with 14... Matthew Butler leads the club in assists with 23... Saint John is 10-9-0-0 at home this season... Charlottetown is 8-12-0-0 on the road... Morin has just one point (an assist) in his last five games. He still sits third in QMJHL rookie scoring...
