THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM

The Sea Dogs’ holiday break is just the calm before the storm. After their eight day break is complete, Saint John’s junior hockey team plays five tough games in eight days.

All five are against divisional opponents including two games each with Bathurst and Moncton. Saint John is 5-0 against Bathurst this season with one game going to a shootout. They have outscored their provincial rivals 29-12 in those five meetings.

The last time the Sea Dogs played the Wildcats, their 22 game winning streak came to an end. Playing in front of over 5,000 fans at the Moncton Coliseum, the Sea Dogs got a taste of post-season intensity.

"The crowd was as ready as their team was,'' said goaltender Marc-Antoine Gelinas to the Telegraph-Journal."They were the seventh player (the whole game) and I think we felt it. Even after the second goal when they tied it up, we kind of let down and they were really pumped. It was our third game in three nights, so we were already tired, and that crowd didn't help.''

Saint John is 2-1 versus the Wildcats this season. The two wins both came in extra time with one being in a shootout and the other decided in overtime. Despite that, Saint John is being outscored 12-10 by the Wildcats this season thanks to a 7-3 blowout loss on December 13.
