SEA DOGS NOTEBOOK

GALIEV: “IT WILL BE COOL”
It’s well documented that Hockey Night in Canada commentator Don Cherry doesn’t care to much for Russians. But do Russians like him?

"I've seen him on TV,'' Sea Dogs forward Stanislav Galiev said to the Telegraph-Journal."I've heard about him.

Galiev was named to Team Cherry and will take on Team Bobby Orr at the 2010 Home Hardware Top Prospects Game in Windsor, Ont. Galiev got the news by means of a text message.

“The Top Prospects Game is a good opportunity and it shows his play is valued,'' said Alex Belopolsky, Galiev's Toronto-based agent."Stanislav appreciates the opportunity he's been given by Saint John, the calibre of his teammates and the coaching staff and the overall professionalism of the organization.''

OUELLET TRADE OFFICIALLY OFFICIAL
The Telegraph-Journal confirmed the Olivier Ouellet trade yesterday. Here is a breakdown of the trade:

To Saint John: Shawinigan’s 2010 fifth round draft pick and a conditional draft pick in 2011 in Ouellet plays next season.

To Shawinigan: Olivier Ouellet and a 2010 sixth round draft choice.

Columnist Peter McGuire revealed that Ouellet did indeed leave the team because of his ice time. Also, McGuire stated that the 19-year-old left because he wanted to play for a contender. “HELLO!!!” said McGuire. “The Sea Dogs are first overall in the league, ranked second in the country among 60 major junior teams and have won 23 of their last 25. Is that not contender enough?”

SCOUT SURPRISED OF SAUVE’S SNUB
Vancouver Canucks assistant General Manager Laurence Gilman was disappointed that prospects Yann Sauve and Kevin Connauton were not invited to try out for Team Canada’s world junior team.

"We were hoping, based on their strong seasons, that they would get consideration but, as everybody knows, Canada is exceptionally deep with talent," Gilman told the Vancouver Sun.

Connauton has 15 goals and 35 points in 35 games with the Vancouver Giants while Sauve has 21 points in 33 games with the Saint John Sea Dogs of the Quebec League.

ANTHONY: “It’s definitely a better fit”
It’s time for the yearly Steven Anthony article in Metro Halifax. This year the article reveals a lot about Anthony’s thoughts on his new coaching staff.

“It’s definitely a better fit,” said Anthony, a former 10th overall QMJHL pick.

“He’s a great coach and the whole staff treats us well. They have confidence in us to go out and play our game, and that’s been a part of our success.”
