SAINT JOHN - The new look Saint John Sea Dogs made a strong first impression on Friday night at TD Station.

Playing in their first game since Dec. 18, the Sea Dogs had a fairly easy time with a rebuilding Blainville-Boisbriand Armada team, picking up a 4-0 win. Shots in the game ended 40-17 in favour of Saint John.

After loading up at the trade deadline, the Sea Dogs dressed seven new players who have had just a couple weeks of practice time. Saint John got off to a bit of a slow start - perhaps some signs of rust - but seemed to get better as the game went along.

William Dufour scored his team leading 23rd goal of the season in the first period. Marshall Lessard and Brady Burns each scored power play goals in the second period. Philippe Daoust was given credit for a goal early in the third period to make it 4-0 final.

Despite not being tested a whole lot, newcomer Nikolas Hurtubise looked very comfortable in net, making 17 stops in the shutout win. He came up with a few big saves - including one on a penalty shot in the second period.

Forward Nicholas Blagden was the only trade period acquisition that did not suit up.

POWER PLAY: Saint John went 2-for-4 on the man advantage in this game. The top power play unit consisted of William Dufour, Ryan Francis, Philippe Daoust, Raivis Ansons and Jeremie Poirier. The second unit had Marshall Lessard, Cam MacDonald, Brady Burns, Josh Lawrence and William Villeneuve.

LESSARD: One of those power play goals came from Marshall Lessard - his first as a Sea Dog. He also had an assist in this game. Philippe Daoust also had a goal and an assist in his first game as a Sea Dog. Newcomers Vincent Sevigny and Raivis Ansons registered assists.
HURTUBISE: A shutout in your debut with a new team is good, right? Nikolas Hurtubise stopped all 17 shots he faced to collect his second shutout of the season. He now has five in his QMJHL career.

STREAKS: William Dufour extended his league-leading points streak to 17 games. Josh Lawrence, meanwhile, extended his points streak to 12 straight games. Ryan Francis now has assists in seven straight home games.

CROWD: With COVID capacity restrictions in place and no further single-game tickets being sold, the official attendance was 1,695. With a nasty winter storm hitting the area, actual attendance was far, far less than that.

NOTES: Peter Reynolds appeared in his first game since Dec. 12... Riley Bezeau got the better of Simon Lavigne in a fight in the second period... the Sea Dogs have stopped all three of the penalty shots they've allowed this season... William Villeneuve had two assists... Jeremie Poirier had six shots... Olivier Picard had five hits.
