THOMAS TOLD TO TONE IT DOWN

A story on CBC New Brunswick's website has stated that head coach Gerard Gallant has asked new captain Mike Thomas to tone down his physical play.

"If I have to fight for my team, I'll do that for my teammates, and I know they'd do the same thing for me," Thomas said.

In five games this season Thomas has 16 penalty minutes and served a six game instigating suspension. He has 299 penalty minutes in his career.

Gallant also discussed his selection of Thomas saying, "To me your captain doesn't have to be your top scorer and your best player."

"From the first time I met him, I see captain qualities in him. It's nothing to do with his toughness, it's just as a person."

2012 COMMITTEE

Sea Dogs majority owner Scott McCain was in town last weekend and a report in the Telegraph-Journal said that he was expected to put together a Memorial Cup bidding committee. No word from this weekend's meetings have been released.

The Sea Dogs failed to win the Top Prospects Game this season but still have their eye on the 2012 Memorial Cup.

Hockey's Future reporter Holly Gunning sat down with Sea Dogs alumni and former captain Alex Grant on Monday.

The article talks about his adjustment to the pro-level and his thoughts about the Pittsburgh Penguins. He also says he was "disappointed" and "surprised" when the Penguins sent him to the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL, and not the baby Pens of the AHL.

MAYBE NEXT WEEK

The CHL was unkind to the Sea Dogs this week. After a 2-1 week and an overall record of 10-4-1-0, Saint John was given an honorable mention for Week 6 of the BMO CHL Mastercard Top 10 rankings. Drummondville is first this week.

Saint John was given the snub even though they have a better record then #7 Kamloops (8-4-2-0) and #8 Vancouver (8-3-0-2).

A HALLOWEEN TRADITION

It has become as much of a Halloween tradition as trick-or-treating. Today after practice the Dogs took part in the annual pumpkin carving. The pumpkins will be auctioned off via silent auction on Sunday afternoon against the Titan.

This year the proceeds raised will go towards P.R.O. Kids Saint John, a charitable organization who helps kids in the Saint John area participate in events that they themselves are unable to due to financial reasons.
