FINAL: Saint John 3, Cape Breton 10
SYDNEY, NS - Isiah Campbell burned his former team on Thursday night at Centre 200.
The forward set a career high for goals and points in a game, netting an impressive four goals and two assists, to lead the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles to a 10-3 win over the Saint John Sea Dogs.
Campbell had two goals and three assists in four games against his old club last season. In five games this year, the 18-year old has five goals and two helpers.
Shaun Miller scored twice for the Eagles while singles came from Egor Sokolov, Gabriel Proulx, Mitchell Balmas and ex-Dog Nathan Larose. Kevin Mandolese made 17 saves in the win.
Saint John was heavily outshot once again. Shots ended 48-20 in favour of Cape Breton - and were 21-5 in the second period alone. For the most part, Saint John has had the perfect storm of problems lately - they can't score and they can't keep the puck out of their own net. Saint John has allowed six or more goals in six of their past eight games.
Lost in this loss will be Maxim Cajkovic scoring his first career QMJHL hat trick, giving him 20 goals on the season - which places him third amongst QMJHL rookies.
With Mikhail Denisov still out with an injury, Zachary Bouthillier was left in for all 10 goals. He made 38 saves in the loss.

Beaulieu traded on NHL deadline day

Nathan Beaulieu is now a member of the Winnipeg Jets.
The former Saint John Sea Dogs star defenseman was involved in one of the final deals made during this year's NHL trade deadline day. In exchange for Beaulieu, the Buffalo Sabres received a 2019 sixth-round pick.
The 26-year-old has three goals and four assists in 30 games this season. He's now recorded 11 goals and 65 assists in 314 career NHL games with the Sabres and Montreal Canadiens. Today's move marks the first time Beaulieu will call the Western Conference home.
The trade puts Beaulieu on a Stanley Cup contender, where he'll be used in a depth role. He's appeared in 17 NHL playoff games in his career, all with the Habs.
Meanwhile, former Sea Dogs forward Charlie Coyle, who played with Beaulieu during the 2011-12 season in Saint John, was traded to his hometown Boston Bruins last Thursday. In exchange for Coyle, the Minnesota Wild received forward Ryan Donato and a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft.

Huskies nearing Sea Dogs records
Embed from Getty Images
CHARLOTTETOWN - With Saturday's 8-1 win over the Shawinigan Cataractes, the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies are nearing some records held by the Saint John Sea Dogs.
The Huskies are having a scary good season, sitting first overall in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with a record of 51-7-0-1, good for 103 points. That's quite impressive - especially when the team still has nine games remaining.
The league record for wins in a season is 58, which is jointly held by the 2010-11 Sea Dogs, 2012-13 Halifax Mooseheads, 1978-79 Trois-Rivieres Draveurs and the 1973-74 Sorel Eperviers. With nine games remaining, the Huskies could win a maximum of 60 games.
While winning all nine of their remaining games seems like a tall task, the Huskies haven't lost at all lately. Saturday's victory was their 21st straight win, which is the fourth longest winning streak in league history. The Sea Dogs won 22 straight in 2009-10, which is the third longest in the league's history books. Sitting second is the 1995-96 Hull Olympiques with 24 and the sitting first is 1973-74 Eperviers with 25. Breaking the league record for consecutive wins is certainly within grasp.
Here's a look at Rouyn-Noranda's remaining schedule:
Feb. 27 at Val-d'Or
March 1 vs Drummondville
March 2 vs Halifax
March 6 at Shawinigan
March 8 at Drummondville
March 9 at Sherbrooke
March 13 vs Val-d'Or
March 15 vs Gatineau
March 16 vs Blainville-Boisbriand
That March 2 game against the Mooseheads would certainly be a must watch... if it was on television.
Also of note, if the Huskies win all five of their remaining home games, they'll tie the 2010-11 Sea Dogs for third most home wins in a single season with 32. The league record is 33.

RECAP: Sea Dogs lose 4-3 (SO)
FINAL: Saint John 3, Charlottetown 4 (SO)
CHARLOTTETOWN - An impressive third period comeback got the Saint John Sea Dogs a point on Sunday afternoon.
The Sea Dogs scored two goals in the final five minutes of regulation time but ultimately fell 4-3 in a shootout to the Charlottetown Islanders at Eastlink Centre. It's not the first time this season that this happened - on Feb. 9 at Harbour Station, the Dogs scored twice in the final five minutes against the Isles to send the game to extra time, setting up Filip Prikryl's overtime goal.
Saint John was playing a man short on Sunday and were coming off an ugly 11-1 loss the night before. Despite allowing 56 shots, the Sea Dogs played a fairly good game, scoring more than a single goal in a match for the first time since Feb. 12.
Jordan Maher gave the Islanders a 1-0 lead in the first period and then Daniel Hardie scored to make it 2-0 early in the second. Less than a minute after Hardie's goal, William Poirier got Saint John on the board. But late in the second, Xavier Fortin scored to put the Isles up by two again.
Fast forward to 15:54 of the third, Prikryl was parked in front of the goal and redirected a Michael Campoli shot. 24 seconds later, Jeremie Jacob put a rebound past Islanders goaltender Matthew Welsh to tie the game.
After overtime solved nothing, the first three shooters for both squads scored to open the shootout. After Brady Burns was stopped in the sixth round, Sullivan Sparks deked out Zachary Bouthillier to give Charlottetown the win and extra point.
Welsh made 24 stops in the win and Bouthillier made 53 in the loss.
Saint John has now lost seven straight games overall and 10 straight on the road.

RECAP: Sea Dogs lose 6-0
FINAL: Saint John 0, Charlottetown 6
CHARLOTTETOWN - Playing their fourth game in five nights, a young (younger than usual, anyways) Saint John Sea Dogs squad had their struggles on Wednesday night at Eastlink Centre.
The Sea Dogs had a difficult time creating quality scoring chances and fell 6-0 to the Charlottetown Islanders. Even when the Dogs were able to get some sustained offensive zone pressure and get a good chance, Isles goaltender Matthew Welsh made the save look easy.
Both teams got off to slow starts, but once the Islanders got going, they quickly put the game away. Former Sea Dog Kevin Gursoy scored a hat trick while singles came from Liam Peyton, Hunter Drew and Sullivan Sparkes. Welsh made 35 saves in the victory.
Saint John dressed seven 16-year-old players plus a 17-year-old who made his QMJHL debut. The team certainly had a better night than Tuesday's 10-2 loss in Halifax, but a squad this young is going to have its struggles against a mid-pack team like the Islanders.
Mikhail Denisov made 31 stops in the loss.
Saint John has now lost eight straight road games and they remain four points out of the league's final playoff spot.
