SAINT JOHN - Nicholas Deakin-Poot scored a hat trick as the Saint John Sea Dogs ended an eight-game losing streak on Saturday night at Harbour Station.
Two of Deakin-Poot's three goals came late in the third period to tie the match up. Filip Prikryl then scored at 3:14 of overtime to lift the Sea Dogs to a 6-5 victory over the Charlottetown Islanders at Harbour Station.
Maxim Cajkovic and Jeremie Poirier also scored for the Sea Dogs. Zachary Bouthillier made 35 saves in the win.
Hunter Drew scored a pair of goals for Charlottetown while singles came from Thomas Casey, Jordan Maher and Liam Peyton. Isaak Pelletier made 19 stops in the loss.
It was a back-and-forth game up until the third period when the Islanders went up by two. Deakin-Poot scored his second of the night at 16:13 of the third and then netted his third at 18:41, sending the match into extra time and setting up Prikryl's heroics.
The victory was Saint John's first since Jan. 12. Unfortunately for the Dogs, the Shawinigan Cataractes also picked up a win, meaning the team remains four points back of the final playoff spot.

NOTES: Former Sea Dogs Kevin Gursoy had two assists while Daniel Hardie had one... Jeremie Poirier had a career best three point night (one goal and two assists)... Nicholas Deakin-Poot now has four goals in his past four games... the Dogs and Islanders meet again on Wednesday in Charlottetown... the Islanders have now lost four straight.
