POSTSCRIPT: Sea Dogs 1, Titan 4

A collection of recaps from last night’s 4-1 Saint John Sea Dogs loss to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan…

Our recap. Alex Fournier made 52 saves but it wasn’t enough as the Acadie-Bathurst Titan defeated the Saint John Sea Dogs 4-1 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action on Friday night at the KC Irving Regional Centre.

The Canadian Press’ recap. Alex Fournier stopped 52-of-56 shots for the Sea Dogs (22-39-1), however Patrik Zdrahal scored two goals as the Titan (24-31-7) won for the first time in three outings.

SaintJohnSeaDogs.com’s recap. The Saint John Sea Dogs could not clinch a playoff spot as they dropped a 4-1 decision to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action Saturday night.

SCRATCHES: Sea Dogs scratches last night were defensemen Olivier LeBlanc (healthy) and Michael Abbott (healthy) along with forward Connor Donaghey (healthy).

KELLY: Former Sea Dogs forward Aidan Kelly is still out of the Bathurst lineup with a head injury. He has played in just 10 games with the Titan since being traded during the holiday trade period, recording four assists.

VILLEMAIRE: Maxime Villemaire hit double-digits in goals last night, scoring his 10th of the year in the second period. He has three goals in his past two games. Since joining Saint John for the second half, the 20-year old forward has 10 goals and eight assists in 23 games.

ZDRAHAL: Patrik Zdrahal had two goals for the Titan last night, giving him 15 markers and 39 points in 58 games this year.

O’BRIEN: The Sea Dogs managed to keep Zach O’Brien to just one point – an assist - last night. He also had two shots and was a +1.

FOURNIER: Alex Fournier took the loss in net but made a whole lot of saves in the process. Fournier faced 56 shots on Saturday night and only allowed four goals as he continues to improve as the season goes on. He fell to 1-11-0-0 on the season to go with a 5.50 goals against average and a 0.855 save percentage.

SHOTS: There were 89 total shots (56-33 in favour of the Titan) in this game. It shouldn’t come as a huge surprise as the Sea Dogs (35.91) and Titan (36.26) have the worst shots per game averages in the league. The Titan had 21 shots in the first period alone.

VS TITAN: The Titan improved to 4-2-1-0 against the Sea Dogs this season while Saint John fell to 3-4-0-0 against Bathurst. The two squads meet one last time this season on Friday night at Harbour Station.

STANDINGS: The Sea Dogs still sit 15th overall in the league with a 22-39-1-0 record for 45 points. Sherbrooke remains tied with them. The Phoenix are in Drummondville today.

ATTENDANCE: 1,369 at the KC Irving Regional Centre last night to watch this one. Bathurst is averaging a league worst 1,371 fans per game this season. There were almost 1,000 more people at the Aitken Centre to watch the UNB game last night.

NOTES: A Zach O’Brien shot that went off the post in the second period went under review. It was ruled no goal… Ian Saab and Jakub Izacky each had seven shots… Saint John won 43 of 85 faceoffs last night… Olivier Houle was a +3… Patrik Zdrahal and Sean Girard had seven shots… Vytal Cote was the only Titan player without a shot on goal… Girard had six hits… the Q site lists hits as 25-12 in favour of Bathurst.

NEXT GAME: The Sea Dogs have just two home games remaining on their regular season schedule. They host the PEI Rocket on Wednesday night at 7pm.
