The Sea Dogs headed to Cape Breton to face off against the
Screaming Eagles on Sunday afternoon at Centre 200. Saint John was riding the
high of a win against the Titan on Friday night.
Sebastien Auger was given a rest as Alex Fournier stepped
into goal for Saint John while Alex Bureau took net for Cape Breton.
FIRST PERIOD
Oliver Cooper kicked off the penalties for the game as he
took an interference penalty at 8:19.
Maxime Villemaire countered the penalty with a
shorthanded goal less than one minute later at 9:05, redirecting a Mackenzie
Brown pass. Brown snagged the only assist on that goal.
Connor Donaghey headed off for an interference penalty at
11:29.
Pierre Durepos earned himself a penalty at 18:47.
Zachery Moody tied the score with his Eagles goal at
19:31. That would end the period with a tied score of 1-1.
Shots in the opening frame were 11-11.
SECOND PERIOD
Bronson Beaton received an interference penalty at 4:50.
Jeremy Doucet was next to head off to the box with an
elbowing penalty at 8:16.
High Sticking was the penalty call that sent Justin Hache
to the box for two minutes at the 13:49 mark.
Noah Zilbert and Jonathan Oligny got into a heated
discussion which resulted in both being sent to the box for roughing with Zilbert
also earning a slashing penalty at 14:38.
Another interference penalty was handed out at 18:02,
this time to Michael Clarke. Saint John took advantage of the power play as
Michael Abbott unleashed a one-timer and increased the score to 2-1 at 19:31.
He was assisted by Pierre Durepos and Jakub Izacky.
Shots were 9-8 in favour of Saint John in the second.
David Weckworth took an unfortunate hooking penalty at
2:36 but it was soon offset by Michael Lyle’s high sticking penalty just two
seconds later.
It was a hooking call that sent Jakub Izacky to the
penalty box at 9:08. He was soon followed by Maxime Villemaire at 9:24 with his
roughing call. It was these penalties that gave the Eagles the power play
advantage that allowed Charles-Eric Legare to score the second Eagle’s goal.
This tied the score 2-2.
Ian Saab was handed a cross checking penalty at 13:16
which once again sent Cape Breton to the power play. This time it was Jonathan Oligny
that scored for the Eagles at 13:56. This would be the game winning goal for the
Eagles as they walked away with the 3-2 win.
Cape Breton also had the lead with shots on goal for the
game with a tally of 34-28.
