The former Saint John Sea Dogs goaltender backed up Dan
LaCosta last night as the UNB Varsity Reds defeated the Saint Mary’s Huskies
2-0 to win the best-of-three Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey
championship 2-1.
UNB won the first game of the series 1-0 in Fredericton last Saturday before Saint Mary’s rebounded with a 5-2 win in Halifax on Tuesday night. Dion
Campbell and former Shawinigan Cataracte/Lewiston Maineiac Antoine Houde-Caron
scored for UNB last night at the Aitken Centre to clinch the Atlantic conference
title.
This is the third straight AUS title for Fullerton and
UNB.
Fullerton, who spent one-and-a-half seasons with Saint
John, has not seen any playoff action this year, playing the role of LaCosta’s
backup. He went 8-4-0 in the regular season with a 2.23 GAA and .877 SV%.
UNB and Saint Mary’s will join Alberta, Saskatchewan,
UQTR, and Waterloo at CIS Nationals which begin next Thursday in Saskatoon. The
schedule has not been announced yet.
